Since they'd met during the baby swap Jaz had been meaning to check in with Robin, but having seen that Marian was back she figured they'd want some time alone. The post on the network was so unexpected, and so scary that someone could be ripped away again, that she couldn't stand to see Robin in such pain. She knew she had to do something, and when his replies had become increasingly despairing she was up and strapping on her weaponry before he'd sent her the location shot. With media technology what it was these days, it wasn't hard to pinpoint the gps location Robin had posted from, and with the help of the internet on her iPad she was off the train and hailing a cab in no time. Her Chinese wasn't great, but it was passable - with a little help from internet translation sites. Only one problem lay in her way. No currency. Jaz hadn't gotten to her position in the CIA by taking the easy route, but in this case it wasn't rocket science, and as soon as they were a mile out of her target destination she waited. Traffic around them was thick, and it wasn't long before the cab driver was swearing and thumping the steering wheel. She had only a vague idea what he was saying, but many of his hand signals were universally translatable. In the middle of a particularly explosive outburst Jaz popped the door open, and scooted out into the street, running clear, before slowing to a stroll and blending in with the rest of the pedestrians. It was a cheap trick, but if Robin was in trouble she needed to get to him sooner rather than later. Jaz checked her phone, and soon left the streets behind. Once clear she began to jog, knowing it wouldn't draw attention now she was out of the hubbub of the city. She was close now, and her eyes scanned the horizon, looking for the familiar figure. This was the place. She slowed her pace to a gentle walk, pausing and comparing the picture with her surroundings. And suddenly there he was. Head down, with a slightly glazed look on his face. "Robin," she called, knowing far better than to surprise a fellow warrior. "I came," Jaz moved closer until she could rest her hand on his shoulder. "I am so very sorry to hear about Marian," she said softly. |
