Characters: Maggie and Bruce Wayne
When: Thursday evening
Location: Shanghai
Warnings/Rating: None as of right now.
Summary: Maggie is exploring the area and getting lost in her thoughts.
Status: closed, onging

Maggie had to get off this train before she lost her freaking mind. The idea of inviting Derek or Hal out with her had crossed her mind, but at the moment she wanted to be on her own to think about everything. Part of her was happy to have Hal back around the train, especially when she had no idea what Karen did to him. If this was how she would have to see him then so be it since he was in perfect shape. On the other side of things, she wasn’t too keen of him being around because she wasn’t sure when the train would send him back. Then again it wasn’t his fault and he didn’t deserve her pushing him away because he could be sent back. The problem was she hated herself for failing him or not fighting hard enough to get free so she could kick Karen’s ass. Her guns were left behind figuring it would be stupid to go in the area armed, but she made sure to have her knife on her.

No way in hell was she going weaponless, but she could settle on the whole going without a gun. Maggie found it weird to be in a city that was busy since she kept waiting for a skitter or an explosion that the aliens were here. This was the first real nice place with people that she found herself waiting for the aliens. Heading off the train, she wasn’t even sure what she wanted to do considering she didn’t get the spell done so she could understand people or anything. No, she didn’t even want to chat with the people from the area. Maggie was just in the mood to walk around and see what was around this place since maybe tomorrow she would come out with money or with the ability to talk to others. Pushing a piece of her blonde hair behind her ear, she turned her body slightly to move past a few people as she tried to avoid any bumps to her side since she was sure it would hurt like hell. Her eyes glanced up to see the types of stores she was passing, making notes in her head of where she was in case she wanted to come find the place again.

Bruce was hardly ever on the train. He still couldn't bring himself to believe that there was absolutely no way back home. Most of all, he couldn't believe that his home - that Gotham City - didn't exist anymore. He went to every airport, searched the internet from top to bottom, attempted to find his usual contacts in Shanghai, but nothing and no one gave him any clues. Though he had a feeling his bank accounts would all be blocked after Bane's scam, Bruce tried them anyway. Turns out they weren't blocked, but guess what? That's right. They didn't exist. He was losing his patience and spending some time with Selina helped. Besides himself, she was the only remaining proof of Gotham's existence.

Naturally, however, he still spent most of his time alone. He was curious to meet and interrogate others on the train, but right now, he had to make the most of the fact that the train was stopped. Really, the only thing working in Bruce's favor at the moment was that he spoke the native language. At least that hadn't changed. As such, he spent most of his time (sleeping wasn't exactly an easy feat at the moment) wandering the streets as both Bruce Wayne (by day) and Batman (by night). He'd actually been able to help some people, all victims in petty crimes.

It was just starting to get dark and Bruce was heading back to the train to change into his batsuit. He picked up a small, free copy of a local paper and started flipping through. To his surprise, there was a small blurb on a woman he'd been able to save from an armed robber. "Biānfú," Bruce read that particular word from the article out loud. It was Chinese for 'bat'. He smiled to himself. Alfred would probably find it amusing, too. And in that split moment of being distracted, he accidentally bumped into someone.

"I'm sorry!" Bruce apologized to the blonde, who was, like himself, clearly a foreigner. Hopefully, he was right to assume she spoke English. "Are you alright?"

Maggie assumed that people would see someone who looked out of place, looking at the signs, and they would move out of her way. Okay, probably not the best move to assume, but she didn’t really give a crap. Maybe stopping one of the magical ones on train would have been a smart idea so she could understand the language but she didn’t feel like going back now. Hey, she could get by since she always did. When someone bumped into her, she found her hand going into her pocket and running her fingers over the knife.

It was habit for her hand to go right for the weapon, but when they apologized, she removed her hand from her pocket. They didn’t seem like they were going to try anything causing her to leave the knife alone in her pocket. Plus he was speaking in English which made this even better. If someone who spoke a different language ran into her then she would have to keep walking and ignore them, but she could understand him. “No, it’s fine. I guess we were both not paying attention to where we were going,” she told him. If she had been, she wouldn’t have run into him and if he had been, he wouldn’t have ran into her.

“Yeah, I’m fine just kind of exploring and all to pass the time,” she told him. Maggie wasn’t quite sure if he was from the train and she didn’t know if asking a stranger whether he was on a kidnapping train or not was a really great idea. Last thing she needed was to look like a crazy person. “How about you? Are you alright?” She asked, looking him over slowly to get an idea on what type of person she was dealing with.

Bruce folded the newspaper he was holding and looked at her, concern in his eyes. At least he hadn't knocked her over or anything. Honestly, he was kind of impressed. She was far smaller and lighter than him, but appearances were deceiving. This woman was tough. "I guess so," Bruce remarked with a small smile. Now that he actually got a better look at her, though, she seemed kind of familiar. When she told him that she was 'exploring' and 'passing the time', he could only assume they had something in common.

"Were you on the train...?" If that actually wasn't the case, a confused expression on her face would say enough and Bruce would excuse himself and walk away. If, on the other hand, he was right to assume they were both passengers, he'd make the most of this opportunity to find out more about what was going on. Most of the people he'd spoken to over the network seemed defeated and resigned to the fact that they were stuck. Bruce was hoping he'd eventually speak to someone that was still just as curious as he was.

Maggie saw the concern in his eyes, but shrugged it off cause she wasn’t a huge fan of people being worried about her. Maybe it was because not many were or most of the time she felt it was fake. He was a stranger so she didn’t need him being concern over her or anything like that. He looked a little out of place in a way that she really had a feeling that he was from the train, but the whole kidnapping train was still a little nuts to her. It was one thing to say that aloud when people showed up on the train. It was a whole different thing when running into people on the streets with no idea as to whether they were from the train or not.

Though he asked the question that she was wondering about causing her to nod slightly. “Yeah, I was on a train. Is that train stopped and you showed up with no idea how you got on it?” She asked with a raised eyebrow. That would let her know on whether or not he was on the same train as her or some other one. Then again she had a feeling he was considering the vibe he gave off, but she wasn’t going to assume anything. The fact she hadn’t seen him around probably meant he was new to the train. Lucky him, that he showed up at a stop instead of during one of the mind fucks that the train enjoyed sending their way while the train was moving or that the stop was a decent one.

And he assumed right. "Same train," Bruce answered with a small nod. She didn't seem as resigned as most of the passengers he spoke to on the network. No, she seemed angry and frustrated over what the train did. "I'm Bruce," he said, offering his hand for a shake. She seemed a little standoffish, but that didn't mean he was going to give up on his manners. "Are you meeting with someone or did you just feel like getting some fresh air?" Or, was she one of the passengers that wanted to stay in Shanghai?

Bruce was heading back for some well-deserved rest, but was curious to know more. He searched the train from the first to the last car for clues about who was behind all this and what their purpose was, but there was absolutely nothing. No leads. No indication of it being anything other than what everyone had told him - this is a time traveling train that kidnaps people from different worlds. That much was apparent to him, but what Bruce had yet to understand was why some of them insisted there was no way off.

Maggie felt a little bit better that this guy was on the same train and wasn’t going to think she was some nut. Then again she really could care less. Usually she knew how to control her anger by taking deep breaths or being able to keep the train from hurting her, but it found her weakness. The fact she trusted very few people cause of her past or that she didn’t let many people in was where it hit her. Brought someone on the train that it knew she would allow in cause she knew them only to take them away after showing her what she had been missing, especially the part on what ended up happening to him. Then to bring another Hal on the train from later on. Was it already in the mood to break her again? Maggie was the type to take things as they came, but she was already afraid that she would wake up to see the bed next to her gone.

“Nice to meet you, Bruce, I’m Margaret but I go by Maggie,” normally she was the type to shake hands, but the hand he held out had her needing to hold the hand that was still a little messed up. “Sorry but I can’t really shake your hand unless you put the other hand up cause this one is in some pain right now.” Maggie didn’t want to admit it; however, he was new to the train and she didn’t need to be completely rude to him. “I had to get off the train for some fresh air considering when we leave no one knows when the next stop will be so you need to enjoy it while you can. What about you?” Maggie left out the part on how she was trying to get away from everything the train could do cause he was new and didn’t need to hear that bullshit. No, people would figure it out. Maggie knew the train could hurt people but it was one thing to hear, another to have it happen to you.

"Oh." Bruce shook his head. "I'm sorry." He switched hands for the shake to be possible. "Are you sure you're alright? Maybe you should get that looked at." Bruce wasn't a stranger to sprains, broken bones, gashes, etc. Though the batsuit was resilient and certainly protected him from major injuries, it wasn't made of steel or anything that could shield him from absolutely anything and everything. In other words, the patching up process was a huge part of being the Batman. Alfred was usually around to help him, but Bruce had stitched his own wounds and immobilized parts of his body many times before. He had a better look at Maggie's hand and thought it might be a little swollen. Even if she'd already been to the train's infirmary, Bruce believed it needed more attention. For obvious reasons, though, he didn't want to make her feel like he was interfering with her business. She knew how to take care of herself.

"I suppose I'm doing the same, but I'm on my way back now. There's only so much hustle and bustle I can take," he explained with a smile. "A lot of passengers are talking about staying here in Shanghai, though. You don't think it's possible?" It was curious to him. Some people seemed happy with life on-board, while others were angry and resentful towards the train. Bruce didn't know enough about what happened before he was kidnapped to even guess who was 'right'. Did the train target specific passengers and leave others be? And there was another question to add to what was already a very long list. If this truly was the work of one of his usual nemeses, then they certainly outdid themselves, whoever they were.

“No, it’s fine,” she said before shaking his hand. “Yeah, I’ll heal. I always do so not a huge deal.” And Maggie always did heal. With everything thrown her way she healed slowly, but she healed. If she went to the infirmary they might want to know what happened and she didn’t want to talk about that. If Dr. Glass was here that would be one thing cause she took care of everyone from 2nd Mass and didn’t ask questions. The doctors here she didn’t know and wasn’t going to take a chance with the questions. No, she would let herself heal even if it was slow and painful. “But thanks for the concern, but I’ll be fine.” The whole thing with injuries was nothing new to her when she was fighting a war on aliens. If she had to take aliens or doctors then she would go with aliens every time, especially if that meant she didn’t need to go into a hospital or something like one. Maybe if it didn’t go down soon she would have it looked at but for now she would deal with the pain.

Maggie nodded at his question, “Yes, it’s possible. I heard some people stayed off with one stop and people are hoping to be left alone with this stop as well. They are done dealing with the crazy train that they are ready to make this area their new home even if it isn’t their own world.” Maggie had no problem with the train until recently, but she would deal cause she had to help the new Hal out and she kept hoping to end up back in her world. A war was going on that she wasn’t going to miss, especially if she could be the one that killed Karen. The bitch had to go for what she said to Maggie, whatever it was that she did to Hal, and the fact she tried to come between Ben and Hal. “I do have to advise you to enjoy this city all you can before the train leaves the area.” She told him with a nod since none of them knew what the next stop would be or even when.

Bruce wasn't going to insist on anything. If Maggie thought she'd be fine the way she was, then that was that. He couldn't deny he was stubborn a lot of the times Alfred asked him to have check-ups and actually see a certified doctor about his injuries. He only got his banged up knee looked at years after it started bothering him, and only when he realized Gotham needed him again. "Yeah, you might just need some time," he said with a small nod.

Honestly, Bruce would be more inclined to stick around in Shanghai if he knew there was a way to get back to Gotham. That didn't seem to be the case, though. So even if very little of what going on made sense, there was one thing that was clear to him - the only way to get back home was to stay on the train rather than off. And that, so far, was his plan. It wasn't anything that helped him sleep at night, because it was so vague and based only on his own assumptions and not facts... But it was all he had for now.

"Alright. I'll try to do that." Bruce acknowledge Maggie's advice with a small nod. "Right now, though, I need to get some rest. Maybe I'll see you around. It was nice meeting you, Maggie."
