Summary: feels and reunion following Bucky's arrival, after [this]

There was nothing that could have prepared Bucky for what had befallen him. If someone would have said anything about him being kidnapped by a train or coming back from the dead or anything of the like, well Bucky would have had them committed so fast it would have made their head spin. Now though, Bucky felt that he’d seen and heard it all. There he was, on some kind of sentient, magical train headed for no telling where, back from the dead (with a great deal of knowledge that he’d come into very mysteriously -- what the hell was with all the new languages -- and some sort of mechanical arm), and people knew him! That was probably the weirdest part, if Bucky was being honest. He’d died in 1945 and these people were from 2012! It made absolutely no sense, which was even less than the sense the train made to begin with. The only thing that Bucky had to cling to was Steve Rogers. His best friend for most of his life was there and remembered him and if there was one thing Bucky could be grateful to the train for, it would be that it gave him the opportunity to see Steve again. Before Steve had contacted him, Bucky had taken Emma’s advice and walked from his room around the other sleeping cars, only stopping once he reached Steve’s door. There wasn’t another name on the plate, but there was that thought that maybe Steve wouldn’t recognize him or wouldn’t want him there. Bucky had never made it a habit to second guess his relationships (not that he’d had that many to begin with), but his friendship with Steve had been one of the best and most constant things in his life. He didn’t know if he could deal with rejection, even if it wasn’t warranted. So instead of knocking on Steve’s door, Bucky had taken up space in one of the empty rooms in the same car and could only hope Steve got back to him over the network soon. It hadn’t taken long, but when Bucky saw Steve’s reply his heart clenched in his chest and a great rock formed in his throat. They went back and forth for a few moments, but what Bucky wanted most was to actually see his best friend, he didn’t know if he could believe Steve was really there until he actually saw him. |
