There were some places that stuck with a guy as being welcoming or safe or good places to think; Tony Stark had developed an affinity for the front dining car. It was usually a quiet place even when there were several other passengers milling about. He liked the layout. There were good memories in there. He'd asked his lover to move in with him in that front car. Over canned soup, no less. They also didn't have alcohol in there to worry about which made it a lot more inviting for Tony and his new found devotion to sobriety. He breezed through it to hit the baggage car for a set of clothes to offer Bruce and Tony tried to think of reasons why his friend's might have been crispy? Did he really say crispy? That was something else to think about. Tony wasn't really concerned since Bruce was virtually indestructible if not literally so in fact. It was more that it could signify something was wrong in the guy's life and Tony wasn't good at fixing wrong in people's lives as much as he was decent at fixing things that were wrong with things. It took him longer than he'd anticipated to find something decent for Bruce, but Tony did manage. He even managed without losing his mind while worrying about what he'd do if it turned out that something actually was wrong at home for Bruce. Who knew what time frame he was coming from? He knew Tony. Knew him well enough to joke and seem glad to see him which meant it had to be after the New York incident, but what if he was from some random future that Tony couldn't anticipate? What would he say then? Shrugging it off, Tony patted his pocket to make sure that the sample vial of Krista's serum was still intact before striding into the dining car. He didn't see Bruce as of yet so he placed the set of clothes he'd gathered onto an empty table and settled into one of the seats. His head was full of too many ideas, too many thoughts, too many frustrating unknowns and it took everything in him to force his mind to blank out. Tony focused on the way that the room felt. The temperature was nice, moderate, even. It was quiet. Very few people around. He couldn't smell a hint of what they'd made for dinner which meant someone had cleaned and cleaned well before leaving the kitchen car. There was a sense of peace in the nothingness of sitting, waiting, and sitting and, where was Bruce? Did the guy get lost? He was a damned genius! He couldn't get lost on a train! The thing was one direction: forward or back. Not a lot of room for detours. He was tapping his foot and grimacing at the table in distaste when he heard someone approaching. His head snapped up fast enough to give him whiplash as he asked, "Did you get lost? I was about to send out a search party. I managed to get up front, get you clothes, and get back here and still have time to wait and think about a search party. Seriously, Banner. You're slacking. I may have to make you go with me to the gym tomorrow to try to get you back in shape." His eyes roamed over his friend with blatant curiosity as he tried to determine whether or not this could be a potential future Bruce he was looking at. "I got here from a few weeks after the New York incident. I was on my way to the UN meeting on small arms. Going to make a statement you could say. When was it before you left? Tell me you're from the future and working in my R&D department has made you mind-numbingly happy to the point at which the Other Guy has developed a new ability of spontaneous Hulk combustion which is why you needed the clothes. I think that sounds plausible." |
