Sometimes Ron could forget Percy was here. Then there were days when he was reminded of exactly why Percy wasn't his favorite brother. He loved him, of course, because he was family (even if there'd been that whole ... estrangement thing that they apparently got over, even if it hadn't happened for Ron yet), but he could do without Percy looking after his best interests. Ron already knew he wasn't the brightest or the best apple in the barrel; he didn't need the reminders. He also figured it wasn't fair he'd implied what he had about Hermione, and figured he probably owed her an apology for that. Maybe, he thought bitterly, it would come out in a song. Or ... the opposite. He'd sing to her how he'd never apologize or something. Merlin, he was sick of this train. He was giving consideration to staying off if it ever stopped somewhere that wasn't infested with something, but he guessed in the end he wouldn't really. The idea of never seeing his parents again, or Gin or Bill or Charlie or George ... or Fred. Especially Fred. Even though he knew he wouldn't be able to change it -- Lily Luna's boyfriend had proved they didn't remember things at home -- he'd still want to see his brother again before he died. Those thoughts were enough to assure him he'd stay on the train. The train was the only way he'd ever get home. Staying off was for people who were going to die when they went home. Die early, anyway. Flopped on the bed, staring moodily at the ceiling, Ron scowled slightly. This train was rubbish. They were in a cave now, or a dark tunnel, or something, and spiders lived in dark places. Lily had already had bugs on her windows. Ron thought if there were spiders on his, he may well go mad. He'd closed the window, made sure it was latched, and pulled the curtains before he'd retreated to the bed. Even so, he wondered if there were some sorts of spells they could put on the window that would keep really big spiders from breaking their way in. |
