"Frustrated" didn't begin to cover it
Characters: Simon, Leeloo
When: Saturday night
Location: Infirmary
Warnings/Rating: none really anticipated
Summary: Simon stresses as the doctors are down to ... him.
Status: Complete
Things had been rough when they were down to two doctors and a few other people who knew their way around an infirmary, but Simon thought between him and Alex they could manage it. That had been before a very red-eyed Juliet had stopped in to inform him that Alex was gone. Simon had tried to offer her some comfort, but she'd waved him off and said she had to eat. While Simon knew it was the nature of the beast, that didn't make him feel any less badly about the situation. It wasn't his fault and there was nothing he could do about it, but all the same ... he hated when it happened. He hated more that the train had whittled the medical staff down like it had. He was already spending too much time here, and that was when they'd been ... well, fully staffed, such as it was. What they had now was ... one new mother, a vet, a nurse, and a teenager who'd been working in a hospital. As far as he was concerned, the train was setting them up for some sort of fall. Or it was picking on him in the best way it knew how. Personally, he'd rather have the latter than the former. He'd rather be singled out for the stress and torment than have the train drop down some medical disaster on all the passengers. But the train was going to do what the train was going to do, and there was no help for it. Perched on one of the chairs at one of the desks, Simon was busying himself with sorting through the medical files they'd started keeping on all the passengers. The ones who'd been interested in volunteering the information, at any rate. He was pulling out the ones of the recently departed passengers, setting them aside as he tried to devise some plan of action for the infirmary that wasn't going to leave anyone alone who shouldn't be alone. He wasn't inclined to have Prim's sister come after him if he ever put the girl on duty alone -- though as far as he was concerned, Prim was perfectly competent where the infirmary was concerned. Maybe he'd leave the scheduling part to Nina. It had been her idea, and if he was in charge of it, he'd give himself impossible hours, neglect Kaylee, and slowly go mad from stress. Exhaling, Simon rubbed lightly at his closed eyes, then dropped his hands to the desk. This was a nightmare. |
