John glanced up when he heard the baby crying, and when he realised who it was, he gave him a friendly smile. The man from the rescue- he'd made a mental note to track him down for a drink and a chat sometime, but time had just got away from him with everything in the infirmary. Still, here was his opportunity- not the most professional thought, but then again his services on the train were entirely voluntary. Things didn't have to be overly formal.
"Aww, bless!" he commented, before he realised what he was saying. Sick babies were so heartbreaking. "Yeah, I can certainly take a look," he told him, getting up and looking around for some equipment. He came back to Jack and the baby with an ear thermometer, and after feeling the kids head, and gently shushing him, he carefully inserted it into his ear. "Do you know how old he is?" he asked as he worked.
