It had been four days since she "spoke" with Peeta, and Katniss was still irritated. Their exchange over the network had confused and frustrated her. Wasn't he the one who talked about how he loved her? Wasn't he the one who came up with the idea of the baby in the first place? She wasn't crazy. She remembered the way he acted, about how she thought he was a brilliant actor, and then it turned out that he was truthful in his feelings for her. Katniss was the one who couldn't decide if what she felt for him was purely friendship or something more. Now that she had admitted to herself that she might love Peeta, he accused her of being in on the Capitol's plan all along? It stung. She felt...betrayed, really. Alternatively, she wanted to shake Peeta until some common sense got back into him, but Prim's warning and Peeta outright telling her he'd kill her made actually seeing him a bad idea. And, in a petulant moment, she decided that she was going to ignore Peeta. Fine! He wanted to believe the Capitol's lies when he should have known better? Let him! See if she cared! Ugh. He could be a jerk all he wanted, but she wasn't going to deal with it. Not externally, anyway. There was still some internal turmoil, but like hell she was going to say anything to anyone about it. In cases like this, she'd normally go out to the woods, but there was no way off this train. Surely, there had to be some place she could go. They had enough...well, enough of them needed an outlet that it seemed silly not to. Having thoroughly explored the train from her car forward, Katniss decided to make her way backward again. The furthest back she had ever gone was the open air observation car--which she scurried through as quickly as she could, given the current scenery. A lot of what was on the train was...really strange. Beyond that was another dining car, then another kitchen car (good to know, that one was closer), and then... Katniss yelped and slammed the door shut. The car, much like the small rectangle, had beeped at her. No, that wasn't completely accurate. There were countless bright lights and multiple things beeping. Was she crazy? She could have sworn that they were beeping in harmony. Frowning, she opened the door again. The beeping and blinking things were no longer there, replaced instead by a floor full of sand and colorful shells. Wait, what happened? Frowning, she closed the door again. When it reopened, the room looked like a much more compact version of the training center that the Capitol used during the games. She winced, but, well...this suited her purposes, didn't it? Not wanting to get stuck in the strange car, she propped the door open and moved forward. A target was set up at the far end of the train. Close to the entrance was a rack with weapons, so she grabbed the bow and arrows from there, not wanting to use up her own arrows. She notched an arrow, carefully aimed, and hit the target on the bullseye. Lifting her chin, she reached for another arrow. A noise at the door caught her off guard. Katniss turned, aiming the arrow at whoever came to the door before even knowing who it was. |
