Twelve days she had been aboard this train. Twelve long and horrifying days. Her anger at Sykes had not gone away, she had merely buried it to be explored at a later date. Claudia had officially taken over their room her laptops and gadgets strewn across its surfaces. Even that remote sense of familiarity wasn't enough to calm her spirit. When they had been stopped in zombieland, Myka had used the ruse of supply runs to burn off some anger. If she couldn't get her revenge on Sykes and all those who helped him she'd use a substitute. Their time in zombieland was over quicker than she would have liked. She had woken the morning after they had begun moving and a quick look outside served to darken her mood. Not only had they begun moving but the landscape outside had been upside down. She had muttered to herself that things couldn't be worse and had gone about her day. Myka stayed away from the net not wanting to read about the latest chatter or what people were doing. It was best to stay with Claudia or alone. Her first venture to making friends had been awkward and one she'd hope to avoid. It had been about noon on Saturday when she'd caved and checked the net. Almost immediately she had wished she hadn't. Babies had begun popping up onboard. Cursing to herself she vowed to think carefully on thoughts that she would mutter out loud. It had been 2 days since then and she was beginning to feel claustrophobic. Myka never cared much for confined spaces and being stuck aboard this train was taking its toll. She left the room late Monday morning while Claudia was still asleep. Her device lay resting in her pocket and if she received a message from Claudia she would respond. Otherwise she'd be off wandering trying to gather her thoughts and stamp out her anxiety. She passed through cars barely glancing at the names on the door or what surrounded her if it was a community room. It wasn't until she passed into the library car that she took in her surroundings and stopped moving. The room brought back memories of her parents bookshop in Colorado Springs and the library at the Warehouse. Her feet propelled her to walk over to one of the bookshelves and take a look at the books present. As her eyes glanced across the titles she found one that brought back memories. There in the bookcase was H.G. Wells' The Time Machine. With nothing better in mind to do she grabbed the book from the shelf and moved to sit down on one of the couches. While it wasn't a long book it would keep her occupied for some time. Hours later she had finished the book and had closed her eyes deciding to just rest them for a short while. Before long she was fast asleep reclined on the couch. |
