Will was seeing red. He wasn’t sure about what he was more distressed about. The fact that Jace had been blatantly lying to him since they first met. Perhaps it was that somehow the two of them were related. Or maybe it was the idea that there were other Carstairs in the future, a very important tidbit of information that someone he knew very well should know about. The most stunning revelation had been that Magnus Bane would know and probably did know of what the fate of Will and his parabatai were, and was pointedly not telling him. Will was in no mood for liars or people who avoided the truth. That might have been a bit too hypocritical to say, seeing as he protected his curse in liars and cruelty to others, but this? The idea that James was not doomed to a short life with unfulfillment, and Magnus was guarding that from him, was cruel unto itself. He left his room only after the infernal baby had gone to sleep, and Jem had settled in from exhaustion. Will seethed quietly in his bed, pretending that he too had drifted off before slipping out of his room and storming down the hall. Will had resigned himself to never knowing any relatives. To pushing everyone far enough away that he would be alone -- but not for long once Jem had succumbed to his illness. The Herondale line was going to end with him, but new revelation, Will was caught in a rare off guard moment. Even more disconcerting was that Jem had known for far too long before divulging the information to him. Was he the only one who wasn’t privy to future expectancies of their lineage? It was a slap in the face that Will was reeling from, even as he approached the warlock’s door. He had no plans on being civil. He had enough of the lying, enough of the secrets. What if there was more Herondales? What if there were more Carstairs? Why was he not allowed to know what was to become of him? He had a right, and so did Jem. Magnus had probably known them in their last moments, moved on past it. Will needed to know the what’s and why’s and who’s. He needed to know how much longer he had with Jem. He needed to know how much longer he had. If the curse was lifted, for he would never think to become close to anyone else outside of it. Will’s head was a mess of thoughts and what if’s. Steeling himself, as she slammed his hand hard against the door -- qualifying it as a very irate knock, Will could only feel himself tense more in anger when he was face to face with Magnus Bane. He cared not for the time of night, or his actions, or the fact that Magnus had a baby of his own to deal with -- Will needed answers. Gathering Magnus’s shirt collar, Will pushed himself through the doorway, and held Magnus against the wall. “Jace is a Herondale. There are others! Others, Magnus.” Will hissed. “What else have you been keeping from me? From Jem?!” Will’s voice was a mixture of a threatening growl and broken confusion. |
