The second the train stopped Jaz was on high alert. She'd only experienced the resort previously, but Dean, amongst others, had filled her in on what to expect from stop-off points. When she looked out the window and saw the carnage it immediately made her think of the plague world he'd spoken of. She shivered at the thought of so much death around her, and then something caught her eye. Jaz focused in on the person, and said a little thank you to the powers that her sight was so good. It didn't move right. Not fluid and natural, the way humans tended to, but awkward - as though it were injured. She blinked, holding her eyes closed for a beat longer than normal to activate the infer-red function of her contact lenses. Nothing. Okay, that was bad. Jaz blinked once more, and the figure was back. "Fucking great! Zombies!" she cursed in disgust. Although she'd only seen them a couple of times there was no doubting the signs. People were warm, and had a heat signature - dead people didn't! Dead people didn't walk around, unless they'd been animated by some dumb fucking sorcerer or other entity! Without another word she got on the network and started poking through the most recent posts. Zombies seemed to be the word on the street, and she joined the number of people considering heading out on re-con. Food and supplies were low, and every bit of her training told her that scavenging was the only option, zombies or no. Dean was in, though she'd figured he would come along it was always good to see it in black and white. Nick too, though she knew him less well he'd been in law enforcement and could handle himself in a fire-fight. An extra gunner was always a good thing to have around. She was just about to pack up and head up to the laundry to gather some sacks - or pillow cases, if sacks weren't to be found - when a post jumped out at her. Jaz had yet to meet Anna, but she'd heard the rumours, and from what she'd read it seemed hard to argue that she was, indeed, and angel. It wasn't clear exactly what that meant, but Jaz took it to mean that she was something equivalent of her spirit guide, Raoul. The read she was getting was that they weren't zombies, but instead were demons. "Shit! Never rains but it pours!" Nick and Dean would be showing up any time, so Jaz got kitted out. As promised she left her spare gun in the nightstand, and only hoped Jimmy would be okay whilst she was gone. She had a couple of things to do before heading out, and needed somewhere quiet, so the luggage car was where she went. It took her mere moments to seek out three sacks, which left her plenty of time to project and find out for sure what these creatures where. Jaz let her mind wander, and felt the gentle tug of her life line as she willed her spirit from her body. Her third eye snapped open as she pulled free, and saw herself sitting beside the huge pile of washing that had accumulated. Okay, now to find out what was really out there! This time Jaz passed easily through the fabric of the train, and the sight that greeted her made her stomach roil. Everywhere she looked there were bodies. No life-force surrounded them, but attached to each corpse was the dark, perversion of a life-line that bound demons and tortured souls to the hell plane. It was like moving through a forest, and Jaz made sure not to touch the chords in case she alerted them to her presence. Okay, she knew enough for now. Something told her this wouldn't be the last time she saw the tortured tangle, and had she been in her human form she probably would have vomited. She turned her back on the vile creatures and followed her life-line back to the train. Once more she was comforted by the bright glow of Dean's connection to her, and more threads had joined his, as she'd met new people on the train. It was good to know she wasn't alone, even if she couldn't contact Raoul. Jaz stretched, and shook life back into her limbs. Time to kick some zombie ass, she thought as she headed back along the train to her room. Her trip left her with more questions than answers; would the demons be pulled back into the hell dimension if their bodies were destroyed? And who the hell was controlling them, cause this sure didn't look like an accident! She mused on the subject until she opened the door and saw her back-up waiting. "Just what I like to see, two strapping guys both waiting for me," Jaz flashed them a smirk before giving a Dean a peck on the cheek. "Hey you," she smiled the smile she saved purely for him, before turning to Nick, "good to have you on board." She took a deep breath and started to de-brief them on her trip into the astral plane. "So," Jaz said when she'd finished, "shall we see what happens when we kick the shit out of them? I'm not certain, but I think there's the remains of a mall a couple of clicks North West. Might be a good place to start." |
