It wasn’t terribly often that Magnus was truly caught off guard. One didn’t live for nearly a millennium without seeing all manner of people and places and situations, after all. An inter-dimensional time traveling train? Okay, definitely a first, but still not outside of Magnus’ realm of belief. Being contacted by a frantic William Herondale whilst on it however? That was something that Magnus would have never expected. Not by a long shot. He had known Will and through him his parabatai Jem back when he’d been living in London. In the late 1800’s. It had been more than a lifetime ago but he could still recall the both of them quite vividly, especially Will who had turned up utterly disheveled on his doorstep seeking help in the middle of the night on more than one occasion. Being immortal however meant that Magnus had had to grow accustomed to outliving the people he knew. They’d ultimately grow old and die while he would remain forever the same. He had already experienced that with William, already grieved his loss long ago as he himself moved on through time. He was used to friends coming and going throughout his ageless life, but it was very rare indeed that they ever came back. Magnus wasn’t even sure how to feel about it. Apparently he fell right back into old habits however because as soon as Will had reached out to him for help he was on his way to the boy’s cabin to offer what aid he could. Back in London, he had for sometime been the only person to know the truth about William Herondale and the curse that he struggled with. Which meant that he knew just how broken Will truly was and for some reason it compelled him in a way that he couldn’t quite explain. Although the ink black hair and deep but often troubled blue eyes probably had something to do with it... Magnus felt guilty about rushing off and leaving Alec without an explanation, especially when they had only just arrived in this strange place, but he also knew that Will would not have asked for assistance if the situation weren’t an urgent one. The mention of Will immediately brought to mind Jem by default and if the two had been on the train anywhere near as long as the others had then Magnus already had a pretty good idea of what the issue was. His tablet in tow (he had read as he walked, as promised!) he immediately made his way over to the next car, giving a quick knock on the door when he found the cabin that Will and Jem shared. When Will answered, all Magnus could think about was how nothing had changed about him. From that intense expression that shouldn’t have belonged on a face so young to the clothes that he was wearing, Will looked exactly the same way that Magnus remembered him and suddenly he felt as though he had been transported through time. Again. It nearly took his breath away, leaving him momentarily stunned. He was so swept up in the flood of memories that the sight of the boy in front of him induced that he hadn’t even thought to consider just how different he would appear to Will. Sure, Magnus looked physically the same and he had always been fabulously stylish but, well, the times had certainly changed and the 21st century was a much more...open place than what Will had known in his time. |
