Who: Daryl Dixon and Glimmer
What: Chance meeting in the gm car
Where: Gym car
When: Tonight
Warnings: Not likely

Daryl had adjusted to life on the train better than he'd ever thought possible. He'd arrived fresh from zombie'ville, and after a lifetime running through the woods and taking care of himself, the train proved to be restrictive and confining. But then he'd met Maryanne, and the walls didn't feel so close and suffocating any more.

He still had a lot of energy to burn, most days. He was grateful for the gym car, because trying to get the chance car to provide a gym was like trying to squeeze blood from a turnip. Having a car set up permanently was one of the few nice things Daryl could recall, that the train had done.

And to prove how grateful he was, Daryl visited the gym at least four or five, sometimes seven, times a week. He went in, his hair still wet from a shower. Wearing a sleeveless shirt and work out pants, he sauntered in like he owned the place, blue eyes searching the room to see who was there tonight.

While she did kind of like her new powers--the invisibility thing was pretty cool, although she really could have done without thinking about the damn dragon--Glimmer was still preferring to work on the things she knew. For a little while, she'd actually worried that getting January's powers had taken her strength from her and had been really relieved to find that wasn't the case.

So right now, she wasn't bothering with trying to work on the 'bending the light' thing, but instead working on her right hook.

She didn't stop when she heard someone else walk in, but did glance over in acknowledgement.

Daryl didn't intend to pay any mind to anyone in the gym. He was going to do his own thing, in his own time. But he couldn't help but notice Glimmer. He didn't know who she was, though he'd seen her about the train, but she had one hell of a right hook. He stood where he was, and watched, admiring her form for a long moment.

"Where'd you learn moves like that?" he asked her. Maybe it wouldn't have been as impressive if she was a guy, but he was impressed with her grace and movement.

"Huh? Oh," Glimmer pushed her sweat-damped bangs back from her forehead with her wrist,

"Been training since I was--five, something like that." She usually didn't go into why she'd been training so long, not until people asked.

"I ain't never had no formal training." He didn't think it particularly curious she'd been training since she was a kid. Society favored boys, for whatever reason, and so be it if someone thought to start their little girl off early.

"Just like to hit things, I guess," he added with a shrug. Hitting things, even inanimate objects, made him feel he could take on anything. He hadn't met a foe yet, that he couldn't handle.

Glimmer actually snorted at that.

"Yeah, I like it too. I mean, even without the training," she almost grinned. "Especially with all the shit this train likes to get up to, least I can take care of myself for the most part."

She shrugged, "I'm Glimmer, by the way." She was getting a little better at the whole being social thing.

"Daryl," Daryl replied. He wasn't keen on the social thing either, he'd spent too long alone or on the run. Interacting with other people wasn't easy for him, even after so many months on the train.

"If you're ever interested in sparring with a partner..." Daryl waved a noncommittal hand. He wasn't up on all the latest social trends, but he'd never turn down a change to trade blows with someone else.

Glimmer nodded, shortly,

"Sure. Been awhile since I've sparred with anyone who wasn't Cato. Not that he's bad or anything, just, you know. Good to work off someone else once in awhile. I know all his weak points without even thinking now, pretty sure he's the same." Not that she'd gone out of her way to find anyone else to spar with. Outside of the times she'd shown Christine a few basic moves, she hadn't thought about training with other people much. Not with how other people tended to look at them, once they knew why they'd trained back home.

"Cato, he's friends with my girl." Daryl offered a little smile at the thought of Maryanne. "I've yet to meet the guy, but she likes him well enough. You and him from the same place?" He was making conversation. It seemed to come a little too easily, maybe the train had softened him a little, made him more social after all.

"I don't do nothing fancy. Just some good old fashioned sparring." He felt the need to explain, given the number of supernaturally enhanced and powered individuals on the train. Daryl wasn't one of them, he was nothing more than a normal vanilla human.

Glimmer nodded,

"Yeah. Panem, though we were from different Districts."

She tipped her head a bit at the mention of Daryl's 'girl'. "Maryanne, right? I've talked to her a bit on the network thing, haven't actually seen her much," She smirked, "Like her, though, 'cause she doesn't think Cato and me are psychos like a lot of people around here seem to."

She almost laughed, "Yeah, me and Cato don't do anything like the people with magic and shit. Well, not normally. Train actually dropped something on me this time. Could've been worse, could've just taken shit away made me a pansy-ass like it did to some."

Daryl nodded. "Yeah, Maryanne's got this thing, where she likes pretty much anybody and everybody, less they give her a reason not to, and I ain't seen much of that. She's easy to like, no matter how different you are." Daryl didn't know why people would think this girl was a psycho, but he supposed they had their reasons. Or not. Most people didn't need a reason to sneer at someone else.

"So what, you've got some powers now? This train is a little bitch, and one of these days someone needs to teach it a lesson. Where you've got powers, other people have lost powers and it makes no damn sense. Train outta be leaving people alone." Daryl felt very strongly about this. Even though he'd settled in to life on the train, he didn't like it much.

Glimmer snorted a little, "Cato can give lots of people good reason not to like him without even trying. Hell, he pushes it with me some days." She might not have really realized it, because the whole thing was still weird, but there was a note of teasing--fondness, almost, under her words.

She shrugged, "Yeah. I mean, nothing else, if I was one of the people who lost something, I'd be pissed and want to fuck someone up because of it. Surprised no one's done anything like that. 'Course I guess it wouldn't do much good, probably make it do something even more messed up, see what it could push us to do." She didn't like that thought at all, knowing as she did that there were quite a few people here with strengths she and Cato couldn't match.

"Really makes me think about getting off somewhere before it gets real crazy."

"Train ain't done nothing to me and mine, lately." Daryl had boasted about that in the past, and he just knew one day it was going to come back and bite him in the ass. But so far, powers had been switched around, Sophia and Maryanne had been affected, but not anything terrible. Daryl liked to think the train knew better than to mess with him.

"I used to think 'bout gettin' off and stayin' off. But it's not so bad. It's kind of, it's home now, you know?" Did she know? For all he knew, she hadn't had any good experiences with the train at all.

"Yeah, this isn't so bad. Better than the damn tracker jackers that showed up just after I did." Glimmer had to actually think not to shudder just at the memory of those damn things.

She almost smirked. "Sort of, yeah. I mean, Cato and I both would both be dead if it weren't for it. And so long as it doesn't do something like try to stick one of us somewhere else, 's not that bad most days."

"Those were the bees?" Daryl made a face. "I helped carry one of the victims to the infirmary. They did a real number on the guy." Daryl didn't even know who Gale was, now. He probably wouldn't even recognise him if he saw him, considering his face had been swollen when Daryl had seen him.

"Don't know that I'd be dead, but where I came from, it ain't looking good." Daryl was glad to be away from the zombies. For that reason alone he preferred the train.

Glimmer nodded. "Yeah. This bitch back home apparently dropped a nest of 'em from the tree we were under, just before I wound up here. Cato says I..." she swallowed, shaking her head.

"They got him too, here. I'm just glad someone went and got his ass, since I promised him for some reason I wouldn't go out. Surprised someone did, seeing as lots of people around here don't like him," she shrugged. "Never got her name. Have to see if Cato did, thank her or something one of these days. 'least I can do stuff like that here. Even if we--" she huffed.

"Well. Cato and I've both got a lot of choices we wouldn't have had back home, that's for sure."

"I had zombies, back home," Daryl shrugged. "Not sure I'd rather have them bees." Daryl'd seen the effects of the jackers, and recovery was possible, unlike a zombie bite. There was no coming back from that, not even death unless someone put an arrow (or a bullet) through your head.

"This and more's why I prefer the train, fickle as it is." That much was true. Daryl had found some sort of peace, on the train. He just hoped no one else from home showed up. He didn't care to see any of them again, not even his brother. He didn't know, and would never know, if Merle had been turned, somewhere along the way. He found he didn't really care, anymore. He'd found his peace, his happiness, and he was glad to be as far from home as he could be.
