WHO: Thor Odinson and OPEN
WHAT: Thor contemplates his situation here on the train
WHEN: Thursday afternoon
WHERE: Car 15, Observation Car
WARNINGS: None expected, will update if necessary

Thor was troubled as he entered the observation car, his face serious, his eyes deep in thought. Taking a seat on one of the chairs facing the windows, he barely seemed to notice the great glaciers of he ice world that passed by outside the window.

Loki's presence on the train was a great reason for his unease. He loved his brother, deeply and completely, but his duties were not only fraternal. He had a responsibility to Midgard, to the humans on this train, and not even the deepest love could allow him to overlook Loki's crimes. He claimed to be from a time before he had lost his reason, and Thor desperately wished to believe that. He yearned to find that Loki could be redeemed, that hope was not completely lost. And yet the circumstances that had formed the man who had committed these great evils were already in play within Loki, and Thor questioned whether he had yet reached the point of no return.

But that was not the only thing on Thor's mind. Jane was also on the train, and with the disappearance of so many of his allies, he feared for her safety. He would not try to confine her as he had Loki. She was a free woman with her own agency, and the most he felt able to do was to warn her of the dangers that Loki represented. Still, day and night he worried and fretted - not just about her safety, but about the safety of all the innocent on this train. There were many here that were good, but many here who seemed to lack sufficient morality to put him completely at ease.

With a sigh, he rested mjolnir in the seat beside him, staring out into the cold, barren, yet beautiful landscape. He wished very much that his father was on board, so that he might ask him these troubling questions, yet he was not so lucky as to have the counsel of Odin Allfather at a time such as this.

Thor had nodded at the girl when he entered the room, always polite. But when she shut her book and looked at him oddly, he turned his attention to her.

"Good day," he said formally. "I do not think we have met? I am Thor, son of Odin, King of the Realm of Asgard."

Belle's eyebrow shot up a bit then, face brightening with a smile.
"I do not think we have," and then the words were tumbling out without thought. After all, before being the Dark One's housekeeper, she had gone to more than her fair share of balls and the like where similar introductions were exchanged "Thor, I am Lady Belle, daughter of Lord Maurice of the Marchlands."

The second the greeting was out, she laughed--surprisingly bright, all things considered. Because even if she might have been a lady, she certainly had no claim to the Marchlands now. "But most people just call me Belle, these days," she said, ducking her head a bit.

Thor could not help but find this young lady incredibly charming, in her gentle innocence, and in the sound of her laughter. He, of course, was not a single man, and there were no intentions in that direction, but she pleased him nonetheless.

"And which name pleases you most, my lady?"

Belle grinned,

"Belle is perfectly fine, thank you. Really, people only ever used my title at court and I never fit in there all that well."

She tilted her head, waving a hand a little in the direction of that large hammer that had first got her attention. After all, she'd seen her share of hulking men back home. "What's that you've got there?--sorry," she nearly interrupted herself, voice not quite apologetic, "--I ah, have a knack for poking my nose into things, can't stop myself, ignore me if you like."

"Then Belle it shall be," he replied with a gallant smile. When her attention turned to Mjolnir, he raised the hammer so that it was more easily visible to both of them.

"This is Mjolnir, forged in the heart of a dying star. It is a powerful weapon, and through it I have the ability to control many things, including the very weather."

He looked at her - many disbelieved him when he claimed such things, and the train was a difficult place to prove such things.

Belle raised an eyebrow. Of course, unlike some, she was not immediately skeptical--she'd seen many of the fantastic objects Rumplestiltskin had collected and fashioned into potions and curses, after all. This hammer was actually much less puzzling than many of the things she'd seen while on this train, at least in theory.

"That's fascinating. But...to wield something of such power, you must be quite powerful yourself. In my experience--such things always carry a great cost." Her heart fluttered as she thought of her love, human now but still carrying some taint from his own power.

"To humans of Midgard, yes, perhaps they do. But I am not of Midgard. I am from the Realm of Asgard. I do not know what the word is for it on your world. Some Midgardians call us Gods."

"Gods" Belle's mouth turned up a bit.

"Well. I'm not certain I'm from this--Midgard you speak of, although it may well be another name for my land. We do have gods though," she tilted her head a bit, nearly laughing. "You look little like them, not that that says terribly much at all."

She swallowed, unable to not make the connection between power and Rumplestiltskin and what he had once been. "This power. You--use it for your own gain, or for others?" If he was a being others saw as a god, she hoped for the latter--but experience told her the former was more likely.

Thor could not help but grin slightly at that.

"Ah, tell me, then, how your Gods appear to you?"

He paused, thoughtfully before continuing.

"There was a time when I wished to use my power for honor and glory, but that time was long ago. I have learned a great deal since then."

Belle laughed a little,

"Well, unless you're gifted or mad, I've not heard of them appearing much at all. I think we..." she twisted her mouth a bit in thought. "Feel them, more than we see them. I know I felt them, sometimes, in the woods outside my village."

For all that she was a stubborn girl, not one prone to behaving as she ought, Belle had so much more faith than she supposed should have been for someone who'd be kept as the Dark One's price; one who had been cast away for being 'tainted' then locked in a dungeon. She only ever prayed to ask that her mother and brother's souls had found peace, that her village was safe, that her beloved would find calm. She hoped that would be enough.

Her eyes lit up a little at Thor's reply. "Well, that is a relief. A space this small with so many people, we certainly don't need any greedy, vengeful gods asking for tribute or anything of that sort."

"Truly, I see myself more as a servant of Mortals, rather than their master. Power should be used for the good of those weaker than you, not simply to make them your subjects."

He looked at her with a soft smile.

"There is...magic in your world? Would you tell me of it?"

Belle smiled a little at that. "There are very few who think that way, so I am very glad to hear that you do."

She shrugged slightly when he asked after the magic of home,
"I...have seen it worked, some, but by few. Well, everyone knows that the fairies spread their dust through the land, but that's different. That...becomes part of the land, it's not something most men can control or shape."

She swallowed, remembering the things that she had seen Rum do, the things that had been done to her.
"There are few humans who wield it much. It--costs dearly. It often changes them. Twists them into...unrecognisable things." Of course, she'd fallen for Rum as such a twisted thing, had seen beyond it. But the Queen...
