Funny things cross a person’s mind when they’re so used to expecting the unexpected. Rose combed her hair idly in front of the dresser mirror, so used to putting on her makeup in the middle of a reality jump that she didn’t honestly register it right away. The ice was nice though – a decent change from all the monochrome since staring directly into that had been giving her a headache. Though none of that seemed to matter when it came to the sex. John had a way about him that had Rose figuring it was just as well he was currently in the shower or else they wouldn’t have been getting out of bed before noon. That wasn’t going to help her fumble through helping Anna bake a highly inappropriate cake.
The box of sweets was just sitting there. She didn’t remember picking them up at all, but figured John had done sometime before they left the resort. It wasn’t as if they hadn’t stocked up, she was used to keeping food in her bedroom anyway. Even back when she’d still been roomed with Chuck, there’d been crisps and drinks lying about. So when she eyed the box the only thing that came to mind was that it was a chocolate-before-breakfast sort of morning. It didn’t have any coconut, so what the hell. It wasn’t until she’d swallowed it that she felt as if she had ants crawling all over her. At first, she figured it was just her nerved, but the second she went and picked up her phone, something cracked and sizzled and suddenly her phone was on the floor.
Rose yelped and hissed through her teeth, turning her hand over to notice her fingertips weren’t burnt exactly, but they stung a bit. She’d never been so relieved to hear the water in the bathroom shutting itself off. “John?” she asked, voice shaking a bit as she watched blue electricity crackle in her palm. “Did you leave a box of sweets out?”
