Simon didn't like this. He didn't like this, at all, but he wasn't equipped to handle investigating or tracking down killers. The question was, was it a killer? The vines, as near as he could tell, were similar enough to the ones they were passing by outside. So did that narrow it down to people who could get outside and survive the atmosphere? Were multiple people working together? He'd known Hale, though not well, and he'd struck Simon as a man who could take care of himself. Maybe they were killer vines, he thought, and a smirk briefly curved his lips before he shook his head. Blue eyes focused on the passing scenery, and his gaze caught on a herd of the six-legged horse-like things galloping by. Or ... whatever it was called when the motion involved six legs. Under other circumstances, he thought this would have been a fascinating reality to study, but right now, his thoughts were caught by the deaths. Murders. He guessed time alone would tell if it was going on. He saw that someone was attempting to start a patrol, and he hoped that would help. He wouldn't volunteer for it; he knew he was useless at things like that. He was sure Mal would be doing his own patrolling, and he figured a few of the lone wolves would be, too. Granted, the lone wolves were at the top of his suspects list, and he frowned. He had a list now? Simon ran one hand down the front of his face before he exhaled a long, low sigh. Maybe they were two separate, unrelated incidents. There had to be several levels of interaction he wasn't aware of. Maybe there was some sort of grudge match going on and now it was getting lethal. And obviously one of the vampires had to be in on it, or ... someone who could get outside and survive long enough to gather the vines. But why vines? Shooting, stabbing, and strangling with vines. There was no pattern he could discern yet. Nothing that pointed to one person in particular. Simon hoped this was the end of it, but he had his doubts. Rising from his seat, the doctor moved toward one of the windows. Resting his hands on his hips, he watched the passing scenery while his thoughts chased themselves in circles. |
