Characters: Christine Daae and Open!
When: Saturday afternoon
Location: Open air observation car.
Warnings/Rating: None, she's a good girl.
Summary: Taking in the gray scenery.
Status: OTA and Ongoing.

The newly added cars were a bit of a blessing, it added new spice to the train, and one did not have to search for the unknown with the chance car. Though Christine was sure she wouldn't have known to look for the newly added cars. Except, perhaps, the library.

Having neglected to get a jacket back at the resort, she made due with the blanket from her bed. Draping it around her shoulders, nearly hiding the knee length dress she wore. But it worked. She was warm enough, and it was heavy enough that it would not blow away in the breeze caused by the train.

Her hands rested on the railing, her eyes chasing over the stalks of corn. Never had she seen such a... sparsely colored place before. It nearly begged for someone with a paint brush to come along and change it from gray to... anything else.

Since Rump--Mr. Gold's arrival, Belle had been unable to do into the library. Which was a shame, considering she'd only had that one day to explore it before. But now, whenever she even tried to cross the threshold, she saw him--standing in front of her with that cup in hand, sitting on the couch while he held her and told her she was brave, coolly addressing her from the doorway before he walked away.

And her room was no better, really. Thanks to the disturbing landscape outside and Gold's arrival which made her fear the Queen's might not be far behind, Belle's mind kept turning the small space into a stone dungeon. She slept there, of course, but only in brief fits barely long enough to keep her standing because her dreams were far from the pleasant escape they had been in years past. If they weren't full of a queen with a heart as black as night, they contained a man whose heart she feared was beyond even true love's salvation.

Which was why, now, she sought fresh air. It might serve to keep her awake, after all. And she was so desperate for something to pull her away from those thoughts that she hadn't even thought about the chill outside. She was only wearing the tan trousers and yellow blouse she'd bought at the resort, so let out a gasp when she stepped out and the cold hit her bare arms.

Her gasp is what alerted Christine. Drew her attention from the odd lack of color in the landscape to the young woman that stepped outside. She offered a smile, "Are you passing through, or do you wish to get some fresh air?"

She was not beyond sharing her blanket if the other young woman wished to remain out of doors. Not that it was icy out, simply the breeze set off by the speeding train was enough to put a bit of a chill on a body. Especially a lithe one.

Belle seemed to startle a bit at the voice. Really, the breeze--much like the voice--had shocked her because it pulled her out of the world inside her head. Her mind seemed, these days, much like this land--constantly fogged over and a little bit terrifying.

Out of practice, though, she put on a smile. "Stepping out to clear my head a bit. The train does get so terribly stuffy after awhile." 'Stuffy', after all, sounded much better than 'constraining and terrifying'.

She took a few steps forward, glancing out into the fog. At least now she could see more than vague shapes. It made the whole thing a touch less foreboding than it looked through the windows. "It doesn't seem quite fair for the train to give us a car like this when we're passing through some place where there's not much to see, does it?" she said, a note of laughter in her voice.

"Agreed," Christine answered. "It makes me long to be a painter, and someone that can hop off a moving train, just to add a touch of color here and there." Without a second thought she held out the edge of her blanket. It was quite large enough for two.

"I am Christine. I do not believe we've met." Introducing herself in case the other girl felt a little strange sharing warmth with a stranger. Though, they were all strangers upon the train, were they not? She had not yet run across anyone she knew from her world or time.

Belle nodded, gaze a bit distant as she looked out on the landscape again. She couldn't help longing for the forests of home, now. "Yes it--makes me wish there were fairies here. I'm certain fairy dust would brighten up the land quite quickly."

A smile touched her face, despite her physical and mental exhaustion, as she stepped in to take the offered warmth. "I do not believe we have. My name is Belle."

Christine had never been in contact with a fairy, nor did she know if they existed in her world. She thought not, but she had to agree. "I think you're right. One would make it so much more pleasant." There were stories about them after all.

Christine smiled brightly. "It is a pleasure, Belle." She admitted freely.

Belle's mouth twitched a bit.

"I forget sometimes that not every realm has magic," she said, as she realised belatedly that Christine might have never seen any enchantments besides the train's.

"This place just seems so..." she paused, searching for a way to describe the train and the places they moved through. "More like my home than anything I've read about in the history books here. Taking people's memories, for example. That certainly seems like enchantment to me."

She shrugged slightly, actually very uncomfortable with that idea. She didn't like the idea of powerful magic hurting people. Her mind kept circling back to the Queen, and then to the fact that her love had helped that dark woman curse their people. "Is this all very different for you?" she asked, a little abruptly, as she tried to pull her mind from those depressing thoughts.

"No, but most read about it, I imagine. And the train is..." Well there was no other way to explain it other than, "Magic." She knew she was still green in so many ways. So inexperienced in life. But Magic still held it's wonder for her as it had when she was a child.

Christine worried her lip a little. "It does that often, not taking people's memories, but... Different things. And everywhere we stop it's... Always different." She confessed.

"But yes, it is very different for me. This sort of fanaticism is usually only found on the stage. Not to mention all the..." She retrieved her phone from her pocket. "Things take a bit to get used too." Using it as example before it was tucked back into her pocket. Lovely that it was that dresses came with pockets without having to have them made into them.

Belle nodded,
"Yes, I...I've seen that most things I would take for history seem to be called fantasy in other realms." A small shrug, "I suppose it's not all that surprising, considering the nature of this place."

She raised an eyebrow. "I had heard people speak of...the trickery it played, before, but this is the first I've truly experienced. Is it all so malevolent?"

A little laugh escaped her mouth when Christine held out the phone. "Yes, that was something new for myself as well. And these," she stretched out a leg to gesture to her trousers. "Papa would have been furious to see me in clothing like this. I'm not sure why, really. It's much easier to walk, and not so easy to be exposed by rowdy young men." She wrinkled her nose a little at the last, remembering some of Gaston's pranks from their youth.

One word of Christine's caught her attention. "The stage? You're an actress?" The word was said with some admiration; not the scorn it would have been had it come from her father or Gaston. After all, if Christine had an occupation, it seemed to follow she had some degree of control over her own fate.

"I find that part the most amazing part. To know that... what I had known as stories are real. Like, Robin Hood and Marian, and... Fairies. There was a realm we moved through that had them, and unicorns. I had also heard that some had gone dragon hunting." There was no lack of wonder in Christine's tone. No doubt what some took for granted in their own world was wondrous to others.

"Not always. There was about of people singing out their emotions for one another. I would not say that was malevolent." It had been entertaining to say the least. Even if she had not joined in.

Christine glanced down at Belle's trousers. "I suppose I was a touch lucky. They were not so strict at the opera house. Though I still did not wear pants that often." She confessed.

Shaking her head she denied what was essentially true. "Until directly before I was brought here I was a chorus girl. Or... An dancing girl. When I was brought here I had just come from being the understudy for the lead soprano."

"I wish I'd been there for that," Belle said, a touch of sadness in her voice for just a moment. "I'd...been kept inside for some time before I arrived here. It would have been nice to see something like home."

She managed a smile when Christine spoke of singing. "Well, I'm sure some must not have liked that very much, though it does sound much more enjoyable than all this."

Belle tilted her head slightly. The troupes that had travelled the kingdom had nothing really comparable to the terms Christine used, but she remembered a little from something she'd read, enough to piece it together. "That's not a small thing, though, is it? I mean, if you were a second for a lead." She shrugged, "It's far more than I'd have, anyway. All that's been expected of me is to get married to someone I've never been all that fond of."

She felt a little pang when she remembered that wasn't quite so anymore. Gaston was gone, and she was more or less banished. She wasn't sure what future would have awaited her, had she not been captured. She knew that most actresses weren't married--not respectable, much herself now. But she wasn't sure if that was the case in all realms and times. "Are you..." she started, then shook her head. "I'm sorry, it's rude of me to ask such things." She'd spent so long poking her love's personal affairs, she was now wary of doing it to others.

Christine frowned slightly. She was used to being confined to the inside herself. It was frowned upon to go out into the Paris streets alone. "Perhaps we'll pass through again. I heard somewhere that some realities, or those like it, are often repeated."

She nodded chuckling softly. "No I'm afraid they did not. Though that was almost as amusing as the singing." She, herself, had not been struck with the urge, surprisingly.

Christine blushed profusely, something she was able to resist doing on stage, but it was far more difficult to do with one person. "When she goes on a tirade... I took her place in a rather well publicized play." She confessed. Though her brow worked together, the thought of marrying someone that she was not fond of was a possibility in her future, too. "I had not met a man that wanted to marry me, but I would have... Not had a choice either. The folly of being a dancing girl, is the loss of one's reputation as a... Pure girl." It was thought that many dancing girls had loose morals. It was not so in her case.

Curious she tilted her head slightly. "No, do ask. I am quite curious about your question. I promise I will not be offended." It was something she could promise after all.

Belle smiled wistfully. "Perhaps. This is all right, though. I had always wanted to travel. Some time to prepare would have been nice, of course." Her nose wrinkled a little with slight laughter.

Her eyes lit up a bit when Christine spoke of being on stage. "What led you to do that? I just wonder because..." she thought of her going with Rumplestiltskin, and her return. How no one had looked at her the same and had forced her to leave. "...I lost my reputation as well, through a choice I made. And one rarely makes those choices unless they are forced, or--unless their heart gives them good reason."

She still believed loving Rumplestiltskin--as cowardly and selfish as he might be with any face--was the right choice, the only choice. Which, of course, brought her back to the question that had been on the tip of her tongue. She coloured a little,

"Oh, I had--simply wondered if there was anyone waiting for you back home. Somone...special, perhaps."

Christine nodded, "I agree. I would have rather not shown up in... Well it would have been nice if they let you change before hand." She stopped to correct herself, and she hadn't the chance, she opened the dressing room door and found herself on a train.

"My father played often in the Paris Opera house. He... He enjoyed it so that in his heaven he does it still." There was the edge of a smile in her tone, no longer could she be sad that her father was gone. "When he died, he left me as Madame Giry's charge, she had a daughter my age. And from then on I was trained in ballet, and... to sing, in secret." She still did not know her mystery tutor's name.

Christine shook her head, "I think, had he noticed me, known it was me, perhaps I would. But..." She caught her lower lip between her teeth before she moved forward. "There is a man here that has shown interest."

Belle's gaze grew a bit distant when Christine mentioned her father. She wasn't sure she'd ever see her own again, even if he did live. But he had sent her away for her own good, after all. She set her arms against the rail in front of them, gazing out as if she could see the Marchlands there. "I imagine that must make you glad, to be able to share in something you father loved so." Sometimes, she would have given anything to be the dutiful daughter again, to see home--but only sometimes.

A brow raised when Christine made brief mention to a person back home. But then her heart twisted slightly at the mention of there being 'someone' here.

But she smiled, though it didn't quite reach her eyes. "I've--someone. From home. He's here now, though he is..." she paused. Her mind still could not quite wrap itself around what Rumplestiltskin had told her, of another curse, another world. "Much changed from when I last saw him. He...did not show much interest, before," a kind way of describing their parting.

"But now..." She squinted a little, as she thought of how he had held her, sobbed against her hair. "He told me it had been a great deal longer since our parting, for him. I have to wonder if the train has any reason behind doing things that way."

Christine nodded slightly. "It does, and what Castiel told me, it lifted a great burden." She confessed. It was hard not knowing one way or another. But now it was like her father had been with her the whole time

Catching her lower lip she regarded Belle as she told how her someone was much changed, from how she knew him. She felt her heart twist a little. "Is the... Parting a good thing? Tell me he holds interest now." She could not bare the heartbreak of others. If he did not, well... Christine had the mind to tell him it was hardly right playing with the minds and hearts of young women.

But of course she needed to know what happened, first. If their meeting here was a good thing then there was hardly any reason to get all heated and angry over it.

Belle did not know what to say of that. Religion back home had been a complicated thing, mixed as it was with magic and souls that could be cursed. She smiled distantly, wondering how to fit in what she had learned here with her own world.

Christine's question made her hands worry at the hem of her shirt. "It...was not wanted, for either of us, I think. He...was very conflicted. There were things in his life that I did not know or understand, and I tried to change him without knowing the harm I did." She wondered, if she had known about his son in those days, if she would have gone about things differently. She wasn't so sure.

Despite the pain of their last meeting, her smile did reach her eyes when she thought of it. "He does. When I told him of some of the things that had happened since our last meeting, he...promised to protect me, should certain people ever come here," She did wonder if he could, should the Queen arrive, but the promise meant so much even if it couldn't be fulfilled. "And he may have done many things in the time I've known him, but he's never broken his word." She couldn't include what he had told her of his son in that. She knew there was so much there she didn't understand, yet.

"Of course he's not said--any more than that. Our reunion was not entirely smooth I'm afraid. My fault as much as his," her smirk was a little self-depreciating, then. She did feel badly for calling him selfish, even if it was true.

Christine smiled at her confession. "I cannot claim to be able to do much, but I would help him should he ever need it. And I'm sure there are others on the train that would help protect you also." She was almost positive if she stepped up that Guy would too. That anyone with a good heart would, if it was needed.

Catching her lower lip she blushed slightly. "I am starting to think that is how it goes. Awkward first meetings, or reunions, that lead to the offering of protection, then romance." Or that was how it was working between she and Guy.

Belle felt her face warm a touch--she truly disliked the idea of needing protection, but would admit that when it came to the queen she would. "Thank you. I--know it must pain him, he was quite powerful in our home, but things are...different, here. I am hoping it never comes to that, and not just for myself." She knew few people here closely, but if any of them were hurt by that heartless woman, she'd never forgive herself.

She laughed quietly. "Yes, I suppose that's not so unusual, in a place like this. I--" she shook her head. "Honestly, even if we never become what I would like...I'm just grateful we had a chance to see each other again."

"I don't think you have to worry much over her though. Powerful or not, she wouldn't be the most powerful on this train. There are Angels, and Demons, and... Other magical people here too. And people who are not so magical, but simply different in a very wonderful way." She thought of Logan, and the others she'd heard about. "The train is like... opening a fairy tail book and everyone simply marching out and making friends." Christine confessed with a bit of wonderment in her tone. "And I would hope none of them would stand by and let someone evil do... evil things." The pranks were one thing. True evil was another.

"Just don't give up hope. If anything pester him." Christine had an idea that she pestered Guy a little. Even if he would never tell her so.

Having read enough of what many called 'fairy tales', but read like history to her, Belle had to smile a bit at Christine's words. "I suppose you're right. It's just a little difficult not to be..." Afraid was a word she hated to even think. She wasn't afraid, she was brave. "Worried about someone who kept you prisoner for several months."

Despite thoughts of the queen, Belle actually laughed. "Oh, I'm quite good at pestering him. I was his house keeper for six months. He tried to scare me at first, telling me tales about how I'd be skinning children for him. Scared me so much I dropped a tea cup. Towards the end I was--chastising him for nailing his curtains down." A tingling feeling seemed to run through her body was she remembered that--falling into his arms, seeing him in the light for the very first time.

Christine nodded. "I can only imagine. But there is hope, that she will never come to be on the train." Because what sort of doom would that mean for others who were unprepared? Not that Christine thought she would be.

She chuckled softly as Belle told her of how she pestered the man she spoke of. It was a pleasant story really. "I can't say that I have a delightful story as that." Christine's eyes twinkled just a little. There had only been the one time she was sure she had got beneath Guy's skin.
