While Simon did appreciate having someone cook for them, he always felt like he should be doing something. But then, so did half the people she fed, so there really wasn't anything to be done after dinner. Still, there were cookies in the kitchen, so he wove his way there before returning to the table with a small cup of strawberries and four cookies wrapped in a napkin. He set them both on the table before he reclaimed his seat across from Kaylee. He glanced around, but most people were in their usual groups, involved in their usual conversations. He rested his hands lightly on the table, though there was a stiffness to his posture. He was glad that -- so far -- she hadn't pushed for anything, and he still wasn't looking forward to telling it, but he thought that the longer it dragged out, the harder it was going to ultimately be. Still, he wasn't interested in just launching right into it, either. "So ..." he began. "So how ... are you doing? With everything?" |
