Who: Sirius Black, Jo Harvelle
When: Saturday night.
Where: Parlour car #9
What: After his mouth runs away with him on the network, Sirius decides that needs a drink.
Rating: Ehhh, PG/PG13ish?
Sirius was fine with women. He was confident enough in himself that he could flirt, and he didn't take rejection too personally. In a big city like London, if someone said 'no' - or worse, 'yes' and it didn't work out - you could easily avoid them until embarrassment turned into memory. On the train it was another story entirely, and while Sirius was absolutely unafraid of the risks inherent in train-board flirtation, he was concerned that in any potential aftermath there would be no escape for either party. 'Casual' became a lot harder to manage when you were stuck in the same few-thousand square feet. Jaime seemed laid-back and fun, which was why he enjoyed her company, but he didn't want to wreck one of his few friendships with complications. (Did it have to be complicated? No. Could he flirt with her and keep from getting things all tangled-up and weird? He wasn't sure.) The best of the liquor had been picked-over, which meant Sirius was left with some second-rate gin and a little tonic. Not his drink of choice, but it would do. He went heavy on the gin and light on the tonic. He was halfway through his second glass when he finally began to feel the tell-tale lightheadedness and decided to slow down. He wanted to be pleasantly buzzed, not drunk. He found his way to the window and nursed the last few inches of liquid as he stared out at the snow. He was a social creature, and Sirius was in the mood for company. It probably wasn't a good idea to seek any out, given that he and his partner-in-crime had just irritated half the train with their last stunt, but since when had he been about the good ideas? A little adventure kept things interesting. |
