While she hadn’t exactly been avoiding Marvel, she hadn’t exactly been hanging out with him as much as she usually did, either. She knew it was just wounded pride, and that she should probably just suck it up and let things grow as they would, but … maybe she still had issues. She had mostly been kidding, but then he’d gone and taken issue with it. So she should have stayed and talked, like an adult, but instead she’d stalked off. Like a spoiled, disgruntled teenager. Maybe it was lack of closure with Don, or maybe she was just skittish about the whole thing. She sort of liked him, and she didn’t want to like him, and if they got to a point where they were kissing and shagging and the train took him? What then? She wanted to go home, to her home, not to stop off in some other reality. She wanted to be back with her parents and Jamie and Albeverus, and the rest of her cousins. She was also pretty sure she’d been here entirely too long to still be acting this way. She should have grown up, should be taking on adult responsibility. Her grandmother wasn’t much older than her, but she was practically running the train. So why was Lily herself such a child still? Circumstance was some of it, she knew. She’d grown up comfortable and not fearing for her life. But it was more than that, too. Maybe she was just … going to be a child forever. The thought annoyed her, and she blew out a sigh before she shuffled the cards. Without any real game in mind, she just laid the cards out at random before gathering them back up to shuffle them again. She didn’t know who had charmed the deck initially, but she’d refreshed it so the black and yellow theme was more prominent. Tapping the cards together on the table, Lily lifted her head briefly to glance around before bending herself back to the task of randomly organizing the cards. |
