Ice had honestly never felt so out of place. She wasn't given to making friends, and aside from reading, that seemed to be one of the primary activities to pass the time on the train. She wasn't good at talking to people, and she never understood cultural references to places outside of Panem. Sometimes she thought about seeking out Cato, or even Glimmer and Marvel, but she never did. She had very little interest in engaging in conversation with the people from District 12; she imagined they'd catch on she was a Peacekeeper and despise her on principle. She'd heard, too, about the altercation between them and Cato, and that only strengthened her resolve to avoid those from 12. So she drifted. She spent her days finding one mundane activity or another to engage in, but she rarely sought out people, or put herself in high traffic areas. Now that she had the room to herself, she saw very little reason to leave it, save for meal times. Sometimes she spent time in the observation car, but it was usually too crowded for her tastes. Tonight, she'd opted to join the majority of the dinner crowd. She lingered after most of them had left though, sipping at a mug of tea that Lily had made for her. Gazing out one of the windows across the car from where she sat, Ice tried to come up with something she could do. She couldn't get off the train on her own merits. She couldn't police anything. There was no threat to fight, so what did that leave her with? She had no utilizable skills outside of fighting and keeping order. She could learn something, but that might require someone to teach her -- and what could she learn of use? She couldn't learn magic, and that seemed to be one of the few useful skills while the train was in motion. She wondered what other people did to pass the time. Sipping at her tea, she blinked her blue-grey eyes once before a soft sigh escaped her. |
