"So, Thomas," The Doctor gave the train a gentle pat, "nice to meet you. Looks like you came along just in time." He couldn't help the pun tugging at the corner of his mouth, despite feeling entirely off kilter. A few moments ago he'd said goodbye to the world he knew, and was ready to hang up his coat for good. Apparently his song hadn't finished after all - or perhaps someone or something had turned the record over. As much as he felt complete, The Doctor couldn't help but glance at his hands occasionally, all the time expecting to see the tell-tale signs of regeneration starting once more. "So far so strange," he murmured to himself. Ahh well, when in doubt explore! He'd only seen the inside of the cabin he'd arrived in, and was curious to see what this semi-sentient train had to offer. There was a schematic of the vehicle on his tablet device, "maps, who needs them," he slid the computer into his pocket and headed for the door. "And behind door number one... a perfectly normal-looking train," he had to say he was almost disappointed. That was until he turned to close the door, where his name was emblazoned above another. "Rasputin? The Rasputin. Mad Monk? Rah, rah, Rasputin lover of a Russian queen?" he wondered aloud. As roommates went it was certainly interesting, and at least he knew it was unlikely the man would play with his Sonic Screwdriver in the night and accidentally kill himself! The Doctor slid his hands into his pockets and rocked back on his heels, looking right and left. "Left is always best," he finally decided and began walking the corridor between the cabins. He hadn't gone far when he heard footsteps up ahead and a young girl came into view. "Hello," The Doctor said as he drew up to her and flashed her a bright smile. "Don't tell me, you're the one in charge of this whole train! See, I knew if I turned left I'd meet someone very, very important, and that must be you." He held out his hand, "I'm The Doctor - you can call me Doctor, seeing as it's less formal. That whole definite article thing gets so very dull after a while, don't you think?" |
