Characters: Kaylee Frye & Simon Tam When: Late afternoon, early evening on Saturday Location: Tortuga - a beachy type beach out of the way somewhere. Warnings/Rating: Nothing planned. Summary: Beach frolicking, mostly happy times. Status: Closed, Ongoing.
No use in being cooped up the whole time, was there? So long as they played smart about it, Kaylee couldn’t see there any harm in going wandering a little ways out. Plus it was a beach, a real beach, soft sand that looked near white, water so clear you could see right through it and that salty-spray tropical air. It seemed safe and all too, so folks on the train’d said - no one had come back injured, probably because it was a good ways from the town, isolated mostly. Out of the way or not, there’d still been the thought to dress to blend in, no sense in attracting more attention, besides it was kind of fun in a way too.
There’d been injuries, something to keep Simon busy; the local pirates, natives that’d gone after Lily (less a threat to those unless you had magic), she was sure to be wise about it, evening was on it’s way and they’d probably have to head back before it got completely dark out. But ..not just yet, she figured maybe they had an hour or so, the light was only just starting to fade and the colour of the sky was only just beginning to change - sure she missed the ‘Black, missed Serenity like nothing else, but there was plenty to be said about a view like this. So it was a pirate town, full of the worst sorts, it was a place like this beach that made it worth getting a little air, some sun. Thoughts had gone to River, of course - she was too dear to Kaylee not to have her place, and she could only imagine how much River would have enjoyed the beach. No doubts it made the heart a little heavy, but Kaylee had the thought she ought to enjoy the beauty of the place on her behalf.
The mechanic headed out in front of Simon, so she could trot right up to the shoreline and let the turquoise water wash over her feet, hiking up the skirt just enough to keep it dry. “You ever seen water so blue as this?” Kaylee called happily back to him, alight with a wide smile, not so much asking with the intent to be answered. “S’Like the colour of .. some kind of jewel.” She waded out further, only a few steps, finding it was still pretty warm too. Home wasn’t something Simon talked about a lot, though she knew he didn’t hate to share stories of the past with her. She tried to wave him over closer, stepping back. “They had any beaches like this back on Osiris?” She asked more quietly now, wondering if all this scenery was a first for him too.
