The wands had been a group effort. Some people who actually had an idea of what the fuck they were doing, and her own. None of them were much to look at, but unless there came a time when Hermione could surrender her spare back to her ... well, she wanted to see if she could make some viable backups. Bellatrix's had been a bust, and it was just so many pieces now. Which, really, suited her just fine. While she didn't generally go around ascribing personalities to wands, that wand really had been psychotic. Just like its former owner. After explaining to Ray where she was going and what she was doing and promising to be back soon, Jaime popped off the train. She missed having him in the forest with her, but ... if this went as badly as it might, she would rather he not be anywhere near the line of fire. Lining up the wands on the ground, Jaime regarded them. They'd managed seven with various cores, and she was leaving the least likely ones for last. If the most likely ones didn't work, she wasn't sure there was a point in trying the rest of them. Picking up the one on the end, she exhaled softly. "Here goes nothing," she murmured as she looked around for a likely target. She hesitated though. On the scale of epically stupid ideas, she thought this one was up there. Sure, Ray knew she was out in the forest, but Ray couldn't come get her. If the magic backfired, who was going to know where she was? Still, she had to try. She'd come out here and made such a huge deal about this, so ... Rolling her shoulders, Jaime cast a simple lumos, dropping the wand when the entire length of it flared. She realized belatedly there was no heat; it was just like a giant glostick. "Nice," she replied, though she wasn't sure it was. Lumos was supposed to be at tip-only thing; if it lit the whole wand, what were bigger spells going to do? Picking up the wand, she nox'd it, pleased to see that at least worked. What else should she try next? Glancing around, Jaime pointed her wand at a branch of a tree. "Reducto," she tried. Unsurprisingly, the entire tree, and not just the branch, shrank. "Brilliant," she muttered sarcastically. Waving it again, she restored the tree. Maybe she'd move on to the next wand and see how that went. "Starting to feel a little Goldilocks-ish," she muttered to herself. "This one's too big. This one's too small. This one's juuuuuuust right," she recited as she picked up the next wand in line to give it another shot. |
