He grinned despite himself, despite the seriousness of the situation. "I'll remember." And remember this as one of the many reasons he loved her. Her courage, and her wit.
"I'll be right behind you," he repeated at her command. As soon as he heard her footsteps quicken, his eyes were fixed on the wasps as they approached, now intent on a new target. But he was in their path, and he would be damned if he'd let them near her. It was only moments before he heard the door opening behind him that they were on him.
He managed to hold some of them off, despite their numbers, not wanting them to reach Marian. But it didn't stop the sharp bite of a sting at the side of his neck, and again at his wrist. Knowing she was safe now, he knew he needed to flee, himself. Before he turned to run he felt another one leave its mark, higher on his sword arm than the last had been, and managing to shake it off he turned, breaking in to a run for the door.
Once through it, he turned mid step and used his momentum to slam the door shut, so that none came through. He rested his forehead against the cool wood as he caught his breath. "Are you alright?" He asked the question of her, though he hadn't looked at her yet. His only concern was her well being.
