Exploration and acclimation
Characters: Ice, Sirius
When: Some time not during Gale's post
Location: Baggage car
Warnings/Rating: None anticipated
Summary: Ice hunts for clothes
Status: Complete

Ice had gotten something of a story from Cato, and slightly more of a story from the network. She'd also noticed another name on her door, and she'd opted not to actually return to her room after that. She hadn't left anything in there; everything she'd arrived with was still on her. She'd located a room with no names on it that didn't appear to be occupied, and she'd decided that for now, she'd stay there.

Maybe once she met her roommate, she may consider a cohabitation arrangement.

Having read there were clothes in the baggage car (as well as other miscellany), she made her way there. She'd also seen on the network that there were jackers and jays on board, but ... she wasn't worried. The only jabberjay she passed simply regarded her impassively. Perhaps she hadn't been its intended target.

Did they have targets? Or did part of it recognize the uniform? She wasn't precisely sure how she felt about that, but she brushed it off as she continued on toward the front-most car.

Taking her time exploring it, she did find the boxes that contained clothing. She wasn't sure what the sizes were meant to represent, but they weren't familiar. So she found a few things she thought would fit, and bundled them up together before continuing her perusal of the car.

Sirius was trying his best to keep himself occupied. Two days on the train and he decided it was the worst nightmare one could possibly have. James and Lily couldn’t be dead. They couldn’t die. He wouldn’t let them die. He was not ready to believe everything he had been told. It shouldn’t be, it couldn’t be.

He shook his head and tried to clear his thoughts. He’d been wandering aimlessly through the train. A part of him craved the company of a familiar face. But he simply could not make himself go to Lily. It reminded him too much of her possible future.

Opening another door, he found himself in the car where he had his clothes from. And they were rather weird clothes. Something else he found was a young woman standing in the middle of said car. “Hi,” he said loud enough to catch her attention. “You’ve just arrived here?”

Ice glanced over her shoulder as she heard someone speaking. “Not just,” she replied before turning her attention back to the clothing. A flutter of wings caught her attention, but the bird was apparently just hanging around. She studied it for a moment, but it remained as silent as the first one had. Maybe they only jabbered in groups, and she smiled faintly before she continued to root through the second box of clothes.

Maybe they wouldn’t jabber at her.

“Are you?” She replied after she broke out of her thoughts. “Just arrived, I mean,” she replied as she glanced back to him. She wondered where he was from, if he was another from Panem, but … she supposed she couldn’t assume everyone was from Panem.

Sirius cast a glance into the birds direction before he deemed it unimportant. What was it doing on the train? It was the second one he had seen so far. Maybe someone secretly bred them. The thought made him snort inwardly. People had all kinds of strange hobbies.

"A few days ago," he said, pausing shortly to watch her sort throught the clothes. His body leaned against one of the shelves. "I think the good ones are already gone." He hadn't found anything decent for himself, so he had picked a few from the not so decent ones and decided to wait for the next stop.

Ice made a noncommittal noise to his observation. She reasoned it was a given; she wasn’t the first person here, and she was hard pressed to imagine that whoever had hunted out the clothing had planned for the numbers the train apparently had.

She also wondered if that guy had anything better to do than watch her.

While he might not have been harming anything, it was moderately annoying to have a shadow like that. When she finished with the clothing, a bundle of it tucked between her arm and her side, Ice moved to the bookshelf.

She hadn’t ever been much of a reader -- nothing in her history had given her much down time, and laying around doing nothing (well, nothing but reading) seemed almost criminal to someone who’d spent most of their lives training.

A quick perusal of the shelf offered her nothing of interest, and when she turned, she fixed her blue-grey eyes on the stranger curiously before she let her gaze slip past him to see what else was in the car.

Actually, Sirius had nothing better to do. The most fun the train was providing were the people and the weird car that always changed its insides. After having exploited the latter, he was prone to exploit the first as well. So he just stood there, watching her until an idea distracted him. And ideas Sirius got were rarely any good.

While her eyes were fixed on the room, Sirius pulled out his wand and hid it behind his back. His eyes wandered around, finding a book that lay next to her feet. A moment later the book decided to be a large spider instead. A large and obviously confused spider. Sirius had a hard time keeping himself from smirking.

More or less oblivious to anything amiss, Ice concluded her perusal of the room before she turned to start for the exit. Since he'd offered nothing else by way of conversation or distraction, and since the room itself was offering nothing of interest, she felt no compulsion to remain.

With confident, measured strides, Ice exited the baggage car to move on to greener pastures.
