Daphne was nervous. Not in the sense that she didn't know what she was getting herself into. She was nervous that she might make a mistake and ruin her chances. It was silly, the rules were made clear. This was just so she could see what would be required of her. Daphne wouldn't be raising her wand for any reason.
She watched with Lestrange as another shape was apparating past them. Then the shout came, asking them their location. Daphne was new to this, but even she realized that was a foolish thing to do. Daphne immediately wondered who it was that was joining them this evening. She knew Bellatrix had said another would do the kidnapping, they were just to destroy the house. But now she wondered who it was. Surely not another Death Eater.
"One cannot be worried about a fool." Daphne said in reply to Bellatrix as she pulled back the grass. Daphne looked at the house. It was something Daphne would be ashamed to call her home. The yard was a mess, debris littered everywhere. Chickens seemed to have the run of the yard, making their annoying little noises that seemed to compete with the frogs from the pond.
The garden was overgrown with weeds, and would probably look better bare. Daphne could see a pond, she figured that must be where the frogs were singing to the moon.
"What embarrassment to magic lives in such a junk yard?" Daphne inquired to no one in particular. To be honest, it didn't matter who lived here. Because shortly, they wouldn't.
Daphne pulled out her wand as instructed. She thought it looked stupid on her part that she hadn't done it yet. Bellatrix was correct, she needed to be prepared even if she didn't plan on using it.
As she followed Bellatrix into the clearing, she decided she almost enjoyed the way Bellatrix talked to her in a mothering voice. It wasn't that Daphne's mother didn't do the same. It was that Daphne's mother did it for things Daphne wasn't interested in. She didn't care about husbands. She cared about her service for the Dark Lord. Something Daphne believed her mother didn't accept privately.
"Aim your wand." Daphne had to look to see who she was talking to. The male with them couldn't possibly be so incapable of this that he needed instructions. But then Bellatrix stepped in behind Daphne, raising her arm and placing it in position. Daphne's excitement roared. She was going to be able to participate. She was going to-
"Scabior?" Daphne's blue eyes looked the male up and down. "You're less impressive in person."
She didn't wait for a response. She went back to concentrating and learning from Bellatrix. She felt Bellatrix's fingers playing with her hair. "None at all, Bellatrix." She felt a cool breeze right before she felt the hot breath of Bellatrix on her skin. "With pleasure."
Daphne could feel her magic connecting with her wand as it sent out a jet of sparks. She could recall every second. The way the muscles in her arm and hand flexed as she made the movements needed. She could feel the faint memory of the tingle that seemed to start in her stomach and leave her hand as the magic moved through her.
She could remember the satisfaction that took her breath when the sparks hit the house and the flame grew fast. Daphne could remember the smile that spread across her face as the Weasleys ran out of their home. She was a part of this. And she was going to love every second of it.
