Lily nodded along to him silently, massaging him as she listened. She never expected Albus to come easily, but she knew if anyone could bring him back, it would be Scorpius. She felt his hands tighten on her, and she looked at him confused, but seeing the tenseness on his face, figured it was his muscles, and continued putting pressure on the same spot until his hands relaxed a little more, and she knew she’d hit the right spot. “I promise you, Albus has never been easy to deal with at any point in his life. I’m pretty sure if my mother knew what a handful he was going to be, she would’ve refused to let him come out.” The insults slipped off of her tongue too easily, even when they weren’t directed at Albus himself. It was a reflex, especially around Scorpius. She knew they hated each other, and she almost felt it her responsibility as his wife to insult them, as it was expected of her. She didn’t mean even half the things she said, but she only ever realised that after it had left her mouth.
Seeing his eyes close, she pulled her hair to one side, and she pressed her lips to his neck, kissing softly and affectionately. “Thank you, though. Really. I doubt anyone else would have been able to get him back as swiftly as you did. And it stops him revealing the truth about us and messing up any plan.” She whispered, before moving to continue kissing his neck. Her eyes closed as their skin rested close to each other, and she only opened her eyes and sat back up when Scorpius’ hand moved to her thigh. Lily knew he liked her in skirts, so had happily obliged that day. But it was his question which threw her, and carefully, she rolled off from being on his lap, to lie next to him, her hands tracing over his facial features.
She knew that voice. She knew that it meant that he wanted the truth, and that he’d know full well if she was lying, so instead? She stayed silent for a long while, her hands running up and down his arm as she tried to come up with an answer. He coaxed her a little for her to reply, and it was then she looked him in the eyes once, then looked down again at his chest again, so she didn’t have to look at him. “I was scared.” She shrugged, still not moving her line of sight. “If he’d been caught, or hurt, it would’ve been my fault. You know…he only left because he apologised and I never saw it. And then he saw the ring and got…so upset.” She looked down at the ring herself, still sparkling on her ring finger, looking as beautiful as when Scorpius put it on her finger. She shook her head, and leaned in to kiss him, not wanting to break it, because if she did break it, he’d probably start asking more questions. But coming up for air, it was her who spoke first. “Why do they have to make things so difficult? All because of that Quidditch accident. I can’t believe they still blame that on you. All Albus keeps telling me is that I’ve ruined myself and..it hurts. So much, Scorpius, and I don’t want it to. I just want me and you to be happy and for my family to accept that.”
