Conversations with HUNK tended to be peppered with sporadic silences, particularly recently. Another short void stretched between the two, and the Umbrella soldier finally said, "I remember that tone." It was firm, almost chiding.
Probably not immediately relevant to the conversation, but it was close enough. Ginovaef tended to sound similarly bitter and disenchanted when talking about betrayals. HUNK knew the tone all too well.
But: this opened an opportunity. "We can make it go away, make sure you're immune from the fallout. Erase you from the records." Not to say that Nicholai hadn't already been caught in the back draft, but a little wheedling and threatening could go a long way in making the situation better.
Not that he really thought the blow back had been the cause of the bitterness. More like because the Colonel had been killed.
He knew what Vladimir had meant to the younger Russian: every once in a while, HUNk would catch would carry the Colonel's smell on him. Not particularly strong, but just detectable enough.
"You know that it wasn't my choice to associate with him. I was following orders."
