FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - 01
Hey guys! From some of the feedback I got from your emails, I've seen that there's a little confusion regarding the game. I realized that a lot of the information for the game I've kept up in my head and PSYCHICLY EXPECTED YOU GUYS TO KNOW. Since none of you have yet developed psychic powers, I have decided to write this FAQ!
If you have any OTHER questions that aren't addressed here, leave them in the comments and there will be a part two! Whee!
Q. When is the game taking place?
A. Good question! This game is taking place in the year 2003. For those of you not TIMELINE WIZARDS, this is after 2 and 3 but before RE4. So Raccoon City is toast and has been for a few years, but Leon has not yet journeyed to Spain to save the President's daughter. Also, Umbrella as a company has fallen at this point (although you'll begin to see that this isn't exactly the case).
The game is also starting in early summer -- June and July.
Q. Where is the game taking place?
A. A made-up island called "Peregova Island" off the coast of eastern Canada (in the providence of Nova Scotia, for you geography people). As we've kind of discovered, apparently the idea of an island here isn't as fictional as we thought...
Obviously that's an actual island which is not named Peregova (and which is a tad too small for my idea), however it's a good representation. That's also about how far from the coast line Peregova is, and about the same geographical point (in fact, I used the longitude and latitude coordinates for that island in the letters I wrote). If you want a more accurate idea of Peregova, you can look here!
Q. Okay... an island. So, is this like Lost or something?
A. Not exactly. Peregova was an island used by a Canadian military as a sort of self-contained community. There is a city, known as the Coralon Complex, which has everything a normal civilian city would have. There is adequate housing, hotels, restaurant, clothing stores, convenience stores, gas stations, even a mall. However, the buildings have all been abandoned and are not staffed. The island was evacuated for reasons unknown and sold by the Canadian government to an unnamed man.
Q. Unnamed?
A. Okay, well, it was Ozwell Spencer, obviously. Peregova is Spencer's new headquarters where he is planning to revive Umbrella's work. This is why your character has been called there!
Q. So where will my character live during this time?
A. Your character can take residence in any of the abandoned houses. Characters could also have been assigned housing in their letter. Especially paranoid ones could refuse to live there and seek out some place else. It's up to you!
Q. So how do journals work?
A. You'll soon find that everything on Peregova is monitored very closely. Characters houses are complete with computers that log only on to the Coralon Network. Here a character is given a place to write via a diary... which is available to anyone else on the network. If a character has a cell phone they have brought along, it will also be capable of making posts to the network. Things can be marked "PRIVATE" or "Locked to [Name]", but you might find that someone will always be able to see it.
To sum it up, NOTHING in this game is "unhackable", unfortunately. Spencer owns the network and thus can unlock anything he likes. However, Spencer is the only person who can necessarily do this. Feel free to mark things as "unhackable", but know they truly are not.
Q. Monitored? How closely?
A. The Canadian government requires a vaccination before any person is allowed access to Peregova. Some characters, not knowing any better, will get this vaccination (people like Chris and Jill, for example, who travel legally), and some people will have it forced upon them (such as William Birkin, who is currently in Umbrella captivity). It is up to you if your character would get this vaccination or not. Some characters, like HUNK, whom I'm convinced does not exist on paper, would not. There may, however, be other ways that your character could end up getting this injection.
The vaccination injects a -- bear with me -- very small, microscopic set of machines into a person. These machines monitor everything your character does -- what they do, eat, say, even possibly what they think. It constantly keeps a measure on your character's blood pressure, heartbeat, and actions. In fact, there is speculation that, programmed correctly, these machines could alter thought, perception, and eventually be used to control.
The injection is Umbrella's newest experiment, and if your character is lucky enough to have received it, the mods will be in touch (although nothing will EVER happen without the player's consent, because that's LAME).
As always, the game is open to player ideas, so if you have any, please, feel free to contact a mod to see how we can incorporate your ideas into the game!
I realize that some of this is like BRAND NEW information and plot points. That is why I am around for questioning any time at Lucky21121 by AIM or though journal comment right on this post!
And feel free to post more questions you might have. Let's make this a great game!
