001: A Series of Letters Between Friends
From Peter Pettigrew to Remus Lupin, 27 July 1977, Blackpool
Dear Remus,
Wish you could've come on holiday with us this summer. The beach is brilliant, but I miss you lot. You're all probably doing loads of things without me. Sirius and James never answer my letters. I got a birthday card (a week late) that James had signed and Padfoot had stepped on, but that was it. By the way, thanks for the chocolate. Hard to believe we're going to be seventh years in a few months. Dad says they'll buy me a racing broom if I take eight NEWTs , so I suppose I'll be spending my free time with you in the library this year. I've been loafing on the beach reading science fiction novels from the Muggle library here; Mum says I'm turning brown like an Indian.
What have you been doing? I hope the FM wasn't bad without us. If you see the others tell them hello. I'm not going to bother writing to them any more.

Peter,
James and Sirius are busy bothering Evans and... well, various girls, in the case of Sirius, from what I've heard. I wouldn't worry too much about the lack of letters, considering. I'd really rather talk to you lot, though, than chase girls who don't care, you know? I keep wishing I was back at school, but you're right, seventh year is a little hard to fathom. Any day we'll be out, you know.
I really haven't been doing much. Got to see a show at the theatre. Da's working a lot as usual, but I don't really mind the quiet. I spend most of the year with James and Sirius, after all. It's a bit of a reprieve. Of course, I still wish you could come visit.
The FM was fine, and I'll let them know you said hi. And don't say you'll have to study with me like it's a bad thing!

Dear Remus,
It's nice enough being on holiday, but now it's just me and Mum, as Dad's had to go back to work this week. I'm actually glad we'll be leaving after this coming weekend. Dad's coming to spend this weekend here with us, then we're all going home together. We've been sightseeing, and I took loads of pictures, but Dad's keen on getting them developed by Wizards (that's one of the things he says he likes best about us) so I don't know how any of them have turned out yet. It's strange to think of him coming here when he was a boy and didn't know anything about the Wizarding world. (For that matter, it's strange spending so much time out around Muggles. Mum does all the housework and that with magic, and Dad's got used to the telly being on the blink when she's cleaning.)
Anyway, I'm glad things went all right without us. I didn't mean studying with you is a bad thing! Well, the studying part isn't all that great, but at least I'll have you around to make it more fun.
Maybe when we get home you can come visit for a week.

Peter,
I think there's a certain charm to Muggle photographs. It's pretty much all we have about at home. Mum used to say the wizarding ones creeped her out. Said she felt like she's being watched. Anyway, I'm glad you're having fun on holiday. I wish we'd go somewhere for an change, but I suppose I can console myself with the knowledge that your mum will have all sorts of embarrassing photos of you in swim trunks to show me when you get back.
Merlin, Pete, if anyone would think I was fun with my nose in a book, it's you. James and Sirius just think I'm it's a bore. I'm glad to help, though.
I'd like to come visit.

Dear Remus,
We're home again, and Mum has the photos all developed. She says she's going to make a holiday photo album, but I am attempting to steal all the ones of me in trunks, so as much as I know you fancy seeing me almost starkers, don't get your hopes up.
One of the reasons you're so fun is that you have time for me you always have something interesting to say about things. Not to mention you're not mooning about over girls who barely give you the time of day. Did you give up Potions? I can't remember. I'm going to need a NEWT in that if I want to be an Auror. I think I still want that, anyway. Sometimes I think I'd rather just stay at Hogwarts for a few more years. Muggles have university you can do before getting a job (that's how my parents met, Dad was in university and Mum's aunt took boarders. Anyway, sometimes I wish we could do that, too.
Mum says you should come this weekend if you want, and then we could go to Diagon Alley together. If you want.

Pete,
I'll start fancying you starkers when the Bloody Baron starts taking tea with firsties. It's just that it's cute when you blush over stuff like
I dunno. I guess it's true that the heart wants what it wants, when it comes to James. I just wish it didn't take so much time away from being with us, you know. And yeah, I'm still taking Potions. I mean, I know I'm not all that good at it, but maybe I'll stop being so distracted this year, yeah? As long as you'll still partner me, I'll try my best not to blow anything up again.
At least you know what you want to do. I'm really not sure. I wonder if maybe I could go to Muggle uni after graduating. Probably not, seeing as how I can't really tell them where I've been taught previously.
Tell your mum dinner was brilliant. Thanks.

Dear Remus,
By the time you get this, you'll have your trunk packed for the Hogwarts Express. I can't believe how slow the summer holiday seemed to go, and then all of a sudden it's nearly time for term to start. Having you here was brilliant, though I can't seem to find two of those bathing trunks pictures, and if they turn up on the Gryffindor notice board this year, you will pay, Moony, pay dearly. I may be short, but I'm still a Marauder.
I'm actually looking forward to seeing old MgGonagall this year. Transfiguration has been so much easier since we completed our extracurricular research. I ought to at least manage an O in that, even if the rest of my NEWTs are As.
I have to go, I'll meet you just inside Platform 9-3/4 on the 1st!
Peter
