WHERE: A stairwell between the basement and the lobby floor.
WHEN: Day 6, morning
STATUS: Incomplete/In Progress
Blue knew immediately that the water pouring into the basement was going to be a problem. But there was an obvious disconnect from her eyes watching a combination of burst pipes and rising flood to their one safe haven from the storm, and her brain sending signals to get up and move. Blue Sargent did not freeze in the face of a disaster, she stomped her way through it. Except that at the people she wanted to make sure were also getting out were inconveniently separated around said basement. And all the time she had to gather them up was swiftly interrupted by another loud-groan-waterfall noise followed by what could only be described as a river gushing into hallways and corners, and effectively cutting off her pathway to them. Blue took one step back, then another before she was sprinting the opposite direction to find another escape route while people scattered. Being short suddenly had serious disadvantages, and the water was quickly rising up to her knees. She'd be the first to go under unless she got to higher ground now. She clung to the handle of an emergency exit, knowing she'd fall clumsily on the slippery concrete without a brace, and shoved her way inside. But before she shouldered the door closed behind her (and hoped to cut off any more water from getting in) she heard the splash-splash-splash of someone hitting the wet ground hard. Her tiny hand reached out and grabbed their arm—his arm—and dragged him to the stairwell, slamming the door shut. It locked. Blue didn't hear it over her shouting of "Steve!" all breathless, and surprised, and sputtering through the water, which was sloshing over the stairwell landings and eddying around their feet. No part of her was dry, and she simply pointed up. Best escape route ever, right? |
