WHO: Lucifer Morningstar (and open) WHAT: Lucifer fills in for a shift WHEN: Day 7, morning WHERE: Café Tropical RATING: Low, probably STATUS: Open to anyone who might want to be waited on by the devil.
Right, Lucifer thought, looking over the list. These were no longer pranks at all. Very well then, he knew exactly what he was going to do and thus found himself a short time later at the café.
"Twyla, love, I'm here to do my good deed and give you the morning off," he announced as he walked up to the counter.
The waitress seemed stunned into silence for a moment, which Lucifer knew by now would not last. And sure enough, she started telling him about some family member she needed to visit but couldn't since she was working but now she obviously could. Lucifer didn't really catch the details because as she spoke she was backing out toward the door as if he might change his mind and then she was promising to come back, probably and she was gone, leaving Lucifer staring out the door.
"Well I thought you would at least show me what to do first," he said to no one and then looked around. "Oh well, how hard can it be, really?"
The few customers scattered around the joint were all looking at him and he just shrugged in response.
"What? It's not as if I'm cooking your food," he offered.
Ten minutes later a customer had shown him how to make coffee, and another had attempted to explain the register but not without taking a sizeable discount on their bill, leaving Lucifer wishing he had just signed up to feed the geese. Perhaps this task had been a bit of a reach, fueled by some misguided optimism that participating thoroughly might gain him a chance to really go home and not just through some mysterious exit.
