Who: George Lass
What: The Reaping of Jenna Thompson
When: Saturday evening
Where: The Gas 'N Go
Why:Someone's gotta do it.
Status: Incomplete/Open
So the alternative: a cab. Whoever had written on that public Hotel message-board thingy about the cell phones having no trouble with local numbers had been right. Of course. The taxi picked up it's fare in front of the Crescent: George was always a stickler for the comfortable and usually less-than-hip. A pair of jeans and a t-shirt so worn, whatever logo had been printed on it's heather-gray weave had become a Rorshach of semi-modern advertising. A Target brand purse on her shoulder: stocked only with a set of keys, her phone, and small pleather wallet.
Maybe a few left-over post-its.
The sun had gone down a little over an hour before she paid the cabbie and stepped over the curb toward the diner's front door: bathed in a colorless glow of neon lights. Another glow added to them when she checked the saved message on her phone screen.
Jenna Thompson. Gas 'N Go. 9:46 pm
The little clock on the corner of the screen read 8:12. Plenty of time.
The restaurant side of the diner slash gas station was overly air conditioned and smelled of f floor cleaner and pot roast. George's eyes-- dark mixtures of brown, green, and gold-- fell on each female she passed on her way from the door to the quaint 'bar' seating. The counter was decorated by several varieties of pie, as well as salt and pepper shakers, napkin holders, and even the generic red and yellow squirt bottles for ketchup and mustard.
"Evenin' Sweety. Would you like a menu?" A cheery, if slightly bubbly feminine voice came from behind the counter. It drew George's attention to the woman standing directly opposite of herself: wearing a dark red jumper dress with white trim and a slightly stained apron. The flash of her fake-bronze nametag read simply. 'Jenna'
George smiled warmly.
"Sure. What's good here?"
