Without her hand in his Michael felt just a bit lost, surprised at how quickly such a thing had formed an anchor for him and he found himself following her to the couch where she now sat. He put himself down across from her despite that itch to be closer - Jesus it had been years since he'd had that sort of contact, he could hold all of this in again, he wasn't desperate or anything. Or he'd never thought he was, maybe he'd been wrong about that.
"Four years." He repeated slowly, she'd been here the entire time that he had, just blocks from him and they'd managed to avoid one another for two whole years. it was astonishing really - that they'd managed something like that. "A little over two years myself." He told her and smiled watching the way she pulled the cat into her lap - at least he wasn't the only one with the need for some small bit of physical comfort.
With the way she had been so open with her questions at the shop earlier Michael was almost surprised that they were sticking with such tame topics of conversation for now. Though he supposed he was doing the same thing, complimenting her apartment, asking how long she'd lived here. Sort of feeling each other out before they started asking about anything else. "I work at the hospital, I'm a - a tech." He shrugged, nothing very impressive or glamorous, nothing using the degree he'd gotten which was no worthless thanks to cutting ties to everything he'd once been. "I was just looking for a new start really - things got a little... well they were hard back at home, I just needed a place where no one knew me for a while."
