[The lack of an argument is more of a concern than a relief, but he leaves it be. Follows her out into the kitchen to retrieve his phone, before retreating to the living room so he can actually make the call. Not to avoid her, there's nothing to hide here but... he needs some space. To breathe, to think of something to say.

In the end he decides to call Hotch directly instead of calling in sick, delivering a watered-down version of the truth and a whole lot of pleading. Apparently he must've said something right, or perhaps the sleepless night and desperation is coming through in his voice because instead of the day or two he was asking for, Reid gets a full week.

He ends the call with a relieved sigh. Okay. That's taken care of. That gives them time to work this out, and so he moves back to the kitchen to check on Kitty.]
