Animals in general were hard to come by these days. Birds and squirrels and rabbits were easy enough to go hunt in the surrounding woods but anything bigger than that was rare. They were too close to cities and towns. If they were lucky enough to manage to find a couple of cows to breed or even chickens, they would be set. Part of the reason Harley was trying to venture out further was to see if they could find meat.
He could not handle a steady diet of mangly squirrel for the rest of his life. Having a cat around would be good, especially if they started having mice and rat trouble. Nothing worse than filthy rodents getting into their food supply or leaving their fucking droppings everywhere. That was going to be his winning argument if Negan came popping in. Thankfully it was just Alicia.
Harley chuckled and stepped to the side, pulling the door open and waving a hand to let her come in. He'd known she would be excited but he hadn't realized she was getting be this ecstatic. He used the back of his boot to kick the door closed and then walked over to his dresser, knowing she'd follow. "Okay, now keep calm. She's still getting used to people." There was a soft scratching coming from inside the drawer, obviously the kitten doing its best to escape her room. Harley pulled the drawer open, scooped the calico up and held her out for Alicia to take. She was still small enough to fit into his hand, just barely. The kitten shook in his palm, from fear or excitement it was hard to tell. "Go on, you want to hold her?"
