Entry tags:emma, hook

Who: Killian Jones and Emma Swan
When: Backdated to the night Elsa and Anna left, and Belle banished Rumple from Storybrooke, and Hook got his heart back, and Emma joined Operation Mongoose. It was a long night.
Where: On the streets of Storybrooke to start.
What: We're making it a bit longer night.
Rating: Low.

A few hours ago, the Dark One had his fingers around Hook's heart, and Killian Jones was one squeeze away from dust. Now the stars were out, and Killian's heart was beating in his chest for the first time in a long time. Each breath of air was fresher than the last, and every feeling that had been dulled by magic had come back stronger than before his moment of weakness. He should have been smiling. Feeling the wind on his very alive face, and knowing that the Dark One was hobbling off to that blinking town with the bologna, should have been enough to make Hook laugh.

Instead, Hook was paying more attention to the way the stones under his feet came together at angles than to where he was actually going. He didn't find any joy in looking at this land's foreign stars, and the slight wind only stilled his expression. Killian Jones had his heart back, but during his absence it had gotten a lot heavier. All the reasons Hook had to feel light had left the moment Emma had turned her head.

That had been a few hours ago. Since then, Hook had decided to go on a walk to clear his head. He already knew even with a rum chaser, sleep wasn't going to come easy that night.

As free as Hook felt, his thoughts kept going back to the fairies who weren't.

Rumplestiltskin was not the only one who had been banished over the border that day, and Swan had gone to try and lift the spirit of the queen. Hook wasn't expecting to see her again that night, but when she came down the path that lead to the sorcerer's mansion, his eyes found her faster than they would have found any other person. Hook had been headed to the harbor, but he could see the sorcerer's mansion from where he stood. The lights were still on inside.

It had become Hook's least favorite place in this land. Every flicker made him think of the flash that had almost taken Emma the night Rumplestiltskin ripped the heart straight from Hook's chest.

When Hook saw Emma coming, he stopped where he was and he waited for her. As soon as she was close enough, his head turned slightly and he looked at her in greeting. He bit his lip, and his brow furrowed a little, before he raised an eyebrow and looked back at her. “Three whole lifetimes spent trying to destroy the Dark One's happiness,” Hook said, “And in the end, he destroyed it himself. It kind of makes you think, doesn't it?” He smiled, not about what he said but at Emma and the smile brightened around the edges for her, and then the expression fell back into something more pensive. He cocked his head towards the sorcerer's mansion.

“What's going on over there?”

Emma was worn around the edges, but for the rest of the night that wasn't something she wanted to worry about. There was plenty of time for her to sort out her feelings another night, right? For now what she really wanted was Hook's company. It wasn't that she almost lost him, thought that was certainly a huge motivation, but that he feels like a quiet moment in midst of a storm.

"No argument from me that he deserved more than he got." There was an edge of bitterness to her voice that maybe in different company Emma might have tried to moderate. But with Hook she didn't even bother. Maybe after more time had passed she might have found a little more grace about the situation, but the anger was still a little too raw. Rumpelstiltskin had tried to destroy everything that she loved, not exactly something she could easily forgive or forget. Her only consolation in all this was now he was stranded without his magic - the very thing he was willing to sacrifice all she held dear for. Served him right.

When his moved back to the mansion so did hers, though her gazed held there much longer. There was still a twist in her stomach over how she agreed to help them. But how was she ever supposed to say no to her son. Honestly it just felt like a fool's errand, but if it made Regina feel better Emma owed it to her. "I don't really believe it will matter, but I guess I owe it to her to help." Emma just shrugged before turning her gaze back to Hook. "And Henry seems really into the idea." Which was honestly probably all she needed to say for him to understand why she'd taken this on.

"I need you for a walk along the docks." He wasn't the only one that found it especially peaceful there. And it had the benefit of being away from the city a bit and away from this mansion. "If you don't mind company." Though she didn't really give him a chance to say no before she hook her arm through his. Emma was confident that he wasn't going to turn her away. That was one thing she could always count on, and it was appreciated more than he could know.

Maybe it was an after effect of Hook's recent brush with death or the reunion between him and his heart, but the stars looked brighter. The weight of his less honorable actions kept him from fully embracing the rush, but seeing Emma there made him smile. The look of her under the moon quickened his blood. Hook had a lot of reasons to be glad he was a survivor, and glad he was alive, but right now one of them mattered more than the others. He was happy to see her. No matter what else had happened today, he was glad.

He grinned at Swan's statement, partly because she'd agreed with him, and partly because he liked when she went into that tone. Hook had always liked her candor. Even when it was directed at him. “We'll see how well he survives the outside world.” The grin became wicked. Knowing the Crocodile's luck, something inexplicable would happen that would turn things in his favor. Hook knew that already, but at the moment, there were fantasies too delightful not to entertain. Hook hoped the crocodile became one of those men that swabbed the floors, or shoveled snow off of the street. When Hook got the fairies back, that was the kind of news he'd want to tell them.

Hook didn't really believe that Regina's efforts would bear much fruit either, but he understood why Swan felt that she was in the queen's debt. She still experienced guilt over reuniting Marian and Robin. Personally, Hook wasn't sure he would feel as guilty if he was in her position, but Swan had more heart than most people. It was why she kept it as guarded as she did. Hook nodded, and tilted his head. He bit his lip. “Well if the boy's into it....” He laughed. Hook thought it sounded like a waste of time, but he didn't see how it could do any real harm to look. “If you need my help, I'm here,” Hook said.

When she said she wanted to join him, Hook smiled. He started walking, but he slowed until she was beside him. She had her walls, and Hook didn't want to press, but if she wanted, his hand and his arm were available. “I'd like the company,” Hook said. He smiled. “What were you finding me for?”
