Where: On the streets of Storybrooke to start.
What: We're making it a bit longer night.
Rating: Low.
A few hours ago, the Dark One had his fingers around Hook's heart, and Killian Jones was one squeeze away from dust. Now the stars were out, and Killian's heart was beating in his chest for the first time in a long time. Each breath of air was fresher than the last, and every feeling that had been dulled by magic had come back stronger than before his moment of weakness. He should have been smiling. Feeling the wind on his very alive face, and knowing that the Dark One was hobbling off to that blinking town with the bologna, should have been enough to make Hook laugh.
Instead, Hook was paying more attention to the way the stones under his feet came together at angles than to where he was actually going. He didn't find any joy in looking at this land's foreign stars, and the slight wind only stilled his expression. Killian Jones had his heart back, but during his absence it had gotten a lot heavier. All the reasons Hook had to feel light had left the moment Emma had turned her head.
That had been a few hours ago. Since then, Hook had decided to go on a walk to clear his head. He already knew even with a rum chaser, sleep wasn't going to come easy that night.
As free as Hook felt, his thoughts kept going back to the fairies who weren't.
Rumplestiltskin was not the only one who had been banished over the border that day, and Swan had gone to try and lift the spirit of the queen. Hook wasn't expecting to see her again that night, but when she came down the path that lead to the sorcerer's mansion, his eyes found her faster than they would have found any other person. Hook had been headed to the harbor, but he could see the sorcerer's mansion from where he stood. The lights were still on inside.
It had become Hook's least favorite place in this land. Every flicker made him think of the flash that had almost taken Emma the night Rumplestiltskin ripped the heart straight from Hook's chest.
When Hook saw Emma coming, he stopped where he was and he waited for her. As soon as she was close enough, his head turned slightly and he looked at her in greeting. He bit his lip, and his brow furrowed a little, before he raised an eyebrow and looked back at her. “Three whole lifetimes spent trying to destroy the Dark One's happiness,” Hook said, “And in the end, he destroyed it himself. It kind of makes you think, doesn't it?” He smiled, not about what he said but at Emma and the smile brightened around the edges for her, and then the expression fell back into something more pensive. He cocked his head towards the sorcerer's mansion.
“What's going on over there?”
