WHO: Ginny Weasley and Harry Potter WHERE: Gryffindor Common Room(and general vicinity) WHEN: Early evening, 16 September, 1996 WHY: Harry finishes his detention with Umbridge and runs into Ginny. RATING: PG for now STATUS: In progress
Harry had received his first detention, with Umbridge of course, his very first week being back at Hogwarts. He wasn't surprised, honestly. He'd sort of been expecting her to land him with detention simply for stepping foot in her class room. The only reason he went was because it was required, and if he was going to find a way to teach his fellow students, he had to see exactly what she wasn't teaching them.
It was just as awful as he remembered it. The ongoing pain of being forced to write the line 'I must not tell lies' into the back of his own hand wasn't bad at first, but she'd made him continue until the blood had made a small pool on the desk beneath his hand, and the entire back of his hand was red and inflamed. Along with his hand aching and burning something fierce, his teeth and jaw ached from keeping it clenched so hard. He refused to make any noise, to cry out or make so much as a whimper of pain. He wouldn't, couldn't, give her that satisfaction.
He was exhausted and sore by the time Umbridge released him and only years of walking the same paths(subconsciously mindful of the changing staircases and all the other tricks of the castle) kept him from getting lost as he made his way back to the Gryffindor common room, his aching hand tucked inside the folds of his robes. He mumbled the password once he reached the portrait that covered the entrance to the common room beyond, practically growling his annoyance as she informed him it was wrong. Had they changed it that day?
"Bloody Hell, just let me in!" He demanded sharply, in no mood to be stuck outside for hours.
