I've been wondering! And maybe some of the Mages in Emillion can help me with this? Or maybe anyone with an interest in spell theory?
How does Dispel work? Does it quicken the duration of the opposing spell it was cast on, so that the spell's full effects technically still occur but the duration is rapidly worked through, as if rapidly fast forwarding a recording? Or does it simply abruptly end and untying the fabrics and threads of the spells energy to explode the effects outward?
Then, if it works in the first manner, and is effectively an alteration of space and time in that manner, does this mean that we should be questioning and more considerate of other spell effects more thoroughly?
The effects of black magics are apparent in their immediate response, but what about simpler, and more overlooked things, like Haste, Cure, Esuna, Silent, and Float?
While Haste is well know for its ability to speed up response times in combat situations, but in order to speed up response times, does that mean it speeds up our abilities to mentally process the world around us, our muscle response, and even things like metabolize? If it speeds up our metabolism and mental facilities, does this mean that from over riding our basic normal abilities, we're forcing ourselves into a high and crash phase appropriately with such a spell? As we are speeding up our physical response rates, are we effectively infusing ourselves with an adrenaline rush? If so, then has there been much research done on the extensive use of Haste spells and a quickening of physical aliments? I would think if we're making our hearts and other body parts and organs work at a faster rate, to keep up with the rest of our bodies working in a faster rate, are we not, possibly, putting our own physical states into a higher percentage rate of burn out before the appropriate age range is hit for those problems? Then again, if someone is having problems recuperating from an accident, could casting Haste on them assist in rebuilding the muscles they need to work on by picking up blood flow and internal body response?
And if Cure is a quickening of the standard healing process, once again we are forcing our bodies to act faster than they are accustomed to on a natural level? From everything I can tell, I think the answer is yes, but would that also result in potential burn out our own natural healing process? Could it possibly cause our own bodies to become addicted or reliant on the push of magicks kick starting that rapid healing and make our healing less effective because of that? Or if someone has problems naturally healing, could it help get their body up to par to a 'normal' healing state if exposed to high levels of cure magic?
Could Esuna, in clearing out all disease also potentially be harmful for bacteria's that could cause such? Could it in turn lower our immunities to prevent potential bodily housed resistance on our own? Or potentially, could it bring about a way for us to increase our immunities if we can pick apart how it works and turn it into an immunization tool of sorts?
If used in excess, could Silent harm the ability for our vocal chords to vibrate and appropriately make sound? On the other side, might it be an excellent way to assist those who sometimes over strain their voices, like singers or actors, to assure increased resting periods and allow them a quicker recovery?
Float, while it allows for avoidance of certain spells and complications, can it also throw off our internal equilibrium of balance? Though, would it also potentially be of benefit for those who wish to go into sailing the seas or skies by allowing an adjustment period of alternative balance to be had before venturing out?
Wow! This ended up a lot longer than I thought it would be! Sorry! :(
