Oh silence yourself you prattling stooge. I am more than remotely aware of the dangers posed, and of the risks at hand. Nor am I dumb enough, or weak-minded enough to even begin to misread the situation at a whole. The plague threatens lives, the whole of the economy could collapse if everyone with the plague were to die, and so on the economy's collapse could result in a near collapse of the political structure of this city, and therefore the borders beyond. Making us weak and vulnerable to our enemies.
Yes, sir, I get the gravity of the situation. It is a matter of life and death, but so is the mere act of living. The idea of a discovery of a new cure, a new life giving chemical, a new source of healing in this world is exciting. Discovery and science is my game. Not bloodshed and violence.
And before you blither on, let me be the first to tell you that that does not make me some lost and naive learner and scientist. I have seen my fair share of battles, and oh the things I've seen. These eyes are far older than this face, and I can guarantee you I've seen the world at its darkest and brightest.
So yes, I am aware this isn't an idyllic stroll, and I know what's at stake, but I am also very excited to discover, because it is with discovery that we give meaning to the life you seem to think I have no desire to save. I have given my life for this city before, far more than those who sit on the Council thinking to puppeteer the lives of individuals, who think it imperative to keep people from volunteering to help others, simply because of the mood they seem to be in.
