There was a rumor, shortly after her late husband's death, that she had poisoned him. The rumor was quickly dashed to her understanding, although she was not oblivious to the looks she sometimes still received. She had heard little of the rumor at the time, having locked herself in her estate, taking few visitors. According to her sister, this had done nothing to quell the speculation.
