She shook her head at the waiter and raised her hand in silent thanks. If things were aligned with the usual, she would be gone before she could claim thirst.
“And this that you call solitude is in fact a big crowd.” Maria quoted, her hand idly playing with a knothole on the table. She sighed and sat back, crossing one of her long legs over the other.
She stared at Theo for a moment, hazel eyes boring into him without embarrassment. People might think it took patience on her part to be partnered with a man as...passionate as Theo. In reality, he very well had to have patience with her as well. Not pressed to answer to quickly in almost any circumstance, she digested before speaking. Many times, her thoughts were in the shape of a halo - a full circle.
But tonight, she simply stated: "You've picked a terrible time."
