"I'm sure I never heard any such blasphemy come from your lips," she responded with a laugh, then happily followed him out onto the dance floor. It became immediately apparent that the musicians knew exactly who had joined them; within two measures, the reel slowed and stretched from two beats to three per measure. There was some stumbling - a few people had already overindulged - but the dancers followed suit, and soon everyone was waltzing or getting off the floor. It was probably nice to command that sort of respect, Ari reflected. And at the very least, even if she spent most of the following evening against a wall, she would get to dance to her heart's content this evening.
"I will certainly be awaiting the scrips with impatience," she said of the duke's suggestion. "There may perhaps be a place for me, and I have grown quite fond of the very large stage complete with an unlimited directorial budget. Still, tonight I am free, and I am quite fond of this feeling, too."
