“Fabulous, EKP in the family,” Ari said with a sigh. “Audrey will adore it.” The question of whether or not she would have to choose another profession hung, unspoken. Altair was well aware of how Audrey earned her living. It was quite acceptable to be a thief and noble – Altair was living proof – but with a Peacekeeper for a relative, or even one hanging about mentoring a relative… well.
Then again, she reflected, she hid her secrets quite effectively, and weren’t the councilors above the EKP?
Actually, that thought was rather discomfiting. She set it aside, chose to focus on her tea a moment.
“I will have to pay better attention, the next time Lady Insufferable hires me,” she said at last. She’d be getting to know the girl eventually one way or another. “Which may be never, if things get worse, though it does seem there’s plenty of work yet. I’ve taken on a few short engagements to finish out the summer, and they’ll be sending the scripts around as per usual around Harvest Festival for the seasonal plays. I will have to tell you if there is anything of note; last year was a lot of straight theatre, though some of it was fairly good, in the end, though I will always prefer the pageantry of opera.”
