“Sometimes, their leaders will make public statements,” she said with a shrug, topping off her tea and selecting one of the tiny pastries. “I was not much able to keep up with the network in my absence; I was simply wondering if I had missed something of that nature. It seems not.” Drake and Merri – if she reached out – would surely tell her a little more. “No news from our illustrious leader either, I take it?” Sometimes, their own guildmaster seemed the greatest mystery of all.
The next topic had her smiling a little mournfully. Audrey had mentioned Altair was assisting, and certainly there was none better to teach etiquette, but still – how sad that her entire persona would need to be remade, when Ari truly believed Audrey was just fine as she was. “Ah, yes. Is it dreadfully difficult teaching her to behave? I shudder to think what you will suffer in correcting her speech, or explaining just why anyone might need five or six forks.” A bit hilarious, really, that she, with her common roots, had the basic knowledge to get by on the sort of occasion about which Audrey had little to no understanding.
