Thankfully, Stone had caught the bag, and put it in her coin pouch. A bag in a bag? Strange things have happened. And it’s not like she honestly expected Arielle to fork them all over—that’d just be plumb stupid. None of these people were stupid, plumb or otherwise, and meeting them again, for business, for camaraderie, for protection, would be wise.
She could think this one over later, as silence would be suspect, and she prattled a bit to fill the silence. “I’d be proud, too! Such awe-inspiring fortune, that it seems like the world is smiling,” and mentally added, ‘Though higher powers know I won’t be if I can’t stop acting like a two-year-old soon.’
“Should we hurry off to call the hover?” Still beaming, Stone turned from the team and stood by the door, staring out at the remains of the fiends. The false smile fell off her face, and was replaced by one of repulsion, and soon that too fell, to a neutrality meant for traveling.
