Ari grinned at Altair's words - he did know how to flatter a girl - and put her fingers back on her strings. The song she played was slow and gentle, its rhythm reminiscent of rocking, back and forth, softer and softer, her voice nearly crooning. One by one, the bombs stilled their advance, until they hung gently bobbing in the air. "Take them one at a time," she said in her normal tone of voice; it was a myth that loud speech would waken them; nothing short of a blow would do it now, unless they took too long...
Well, she could try to do something about that.
As the others fought on, she began picking out another melody. She had only learned it recently, and it had to be played fiendishly fast to do any good; the runs alone were taking months to master, and there was still one place where... She missed a note here and there, just tiny errors that an untrained ear likely wouldn't catch, an unwritten glissando here, and unintended dissonance there. But it worked, after a fashion - she saw the warrior's steps speed and Stone seemed to be moving faster, too. It did not appear to have done anything for the men, but, well, she had known it wasn't perfect, and it had worked.
