Finally, Merri managed to make it back to the tower, his entire body shaking, and not entirely from his drenched body from Watera attacks reacting to the cool of the Mist that had finally receded. The Tenements, after all, were a mess Merri was sure there no words in any language across the whole of Ivalice to describe, and he feared the final casualty count. But more than even that, it was that he had contributed to that number himself. It was only the one, but it was one too many. Merri quickly pulled off his clothes and grabbed a towel to dry himself and started the water for a hot cup of tea, but no matter how much he warmed and dried himself, he still trembled, and the more he trembled the more he felt the tears ready to fall. He fell on his bed and held his head in his hands, trying to banish the still too-fresh memory of their opponent: a hume woman, that he let the kettle whistle. If there was a knock, he would not have heard it. |
